My hero is Dave Drover he is my dad. He is 43 years old and was born in St. John's Newfoundland. I picked Dave Drover, my dad, because he is following his dream. He just started his own company, EmerEx Oil and Gas. He treats everybody with respect and is very honest. He teaches me a lot of great things. Such as hunting, fly fishing, golfing, and swimming.

He grew up in Kilbride, NL. He is the oldest of three children. He has a younger a sister and brother. He grew up playing tennis with his brother, but not his sister. He also played hockey and still does. He likes to teach me how to play tennis. He graduated from grade 12 at Beaconsfield High School. He went to the Memorial University of Newfoundland and completed a Bachelors degree in Geology. My dad then moved to Calgary and worked for a mining company that took him to the Arctic. He made a major copper discovery. After that he went to the University of Calgary and completed a Masters degree in Structural Geology.

My dad has had many accomplishments during his life and will continue to have more accomplishments. He was a lifeguard and he saved one kid's life, he also taught swimming lessons. My dad won an award of distinction for his Master's thesis on Structural Geology. His thesis was over 100 pages long and he hated writing, so that was a major accomplishment too. He drilled his first gas well in Turner Valley and it was very successful. My dad has since drilled over 100 wells. During that time my sister and I were born. I am the oldest. We are his biggest accomplishments. My dad just started his own company and is just finishing drilling his first heavy oil well in Saskatchewan. Our family went to Saskatchewan where his oil well is and they gave me an oil sample. It was really cool to see the big 1000 barrel tank that was filling up with oil. He also studied for but thought that he was going to fail the exam for the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta. He passed the test and we were all really excited for him. That's the highest achievement that he can get as a Professional Geologist.

My dad is my Canadian Hero because he is following his dreams and has had major accomplishments in his life. He has taught me that if you work hard you get great things in life. That you should always try your best in whatever you do, whether it is a test or playing sports. He has also taught me that you should never do bad things, that you should eat everything on your plate and that you should appreciate everything you have. My dad really loves me and I really love him, that is why he is my Canadian Hero
