Dave Grohl was born in Ohio, but his family moved to Virginia. His parents later divorce, and he was introduced to punk rock by his cousin. He turned into a giant punk rock fan as he learned to play guitar. When he was 17 he joined the band Scream. While with Scream, he met Kurt Donald Cobain and Krist Novoselic. The rest was history.
Grohl joined Nirvana and replaced Chad Channing. When playing a show, he hit his snare drum so hard that he tore a hole in the drum. Kurt walked up to the drum, picked it up, put it in the center of the stage, and made it clear to the audience that Dave was Nirvana's permanent drummer. Dave recorded "Nevermind," although he didn't write the drum tracks. Courtney Love, Kurt Cobain's wife, wanted Dave out of the band, but Kurt refused to kick Dave out of the band. "Nevermind" had a huge success. They also came out with the album "In Utero." It was Nirvana's last album before Kurt Cobain's tragic death.
After Nirvana, Grohl worked with many bands including "Nine Inch Nails," "Queens of The Stone Age," Tom Petty, "Tenacious D," "Garbage," and Paul McCartney. He later decided to start his own band, The Foo Fighters. His first album only had Dave himself on every instrument. One of the most memorable songs is "I'll Stick Around." The song is about Cortney Love and his debate with her over the rights of Nirvana's songs. The chorus consists of Dave screaming "I don't owe you anything!" He later added Nate Mendel on bass and Nirvana's touring guitarists Pat Smear on guitar. They recorded "Everlong" while Dave played the amazing drum track. Taylor Hawkins later joined the band and played the drums in the music video for "Everlong." The Foo Fighters still tour the world today.
Dave Grohl is my hero because he is a great musician.
