DeSean Jackson

by Josh from Roseville

Have you ever had a hero or have a hero? My hero is DeSean Jackson, wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles, because I've always looked up to him. He has always showed me to never give up even if you're not a "starter", meaning the person to start or play first. I always look up to DeSean Jackson because he is a great player and that he gives so much to charity. I'm going to explain all about his early life, contribution to charity, and his present life.

DeSean Jackson was born in Los Angeles, CA on Dec 1, 1986. His parents were Bill and Gayle Jackson and his brother Byron Jackson. DeSean Jackson attended Long Beach High School, where he didn't do any sports until he was a senior. He became an instant star for the football team. He had 48 receptions for 843 yards and 8 touchdowns in that year. He had done so well that Cal Poly had accepted him to go to college there.

DeSean Jackson's contribution to charity is huge. He started The DeSean Jackson Foundation, a foundation that talks about and treats pancreatic cancer, anti-bulling, wounded warriors, etc... He donated 50k to Wounded Warriors. On Dec 3, 2013 he took 50 kids in need on a shopping spree called "Shop with Jocks." He ended up spending $100 on each kid and he said "We really want to do something this holiday season."

Desean Jackson's current life and his successes. He was a round 2 pick 49 to the Philadelphia Eagles, he is number 10. He has gotten 335 receptions for 5806 yards (17.3 average) and 30 touchdowns in his career in the NFL. He is one of the fastest players in the NFL. He can run a 40 yard dash in 4.35 seconds. He is in the top 20 when it comes to get touchdowns on punt returns. Jerry Rice, Hall of Fame award winner, said "has all the talent in the world."

DeSean Jackson has and will be my hero for a long time . I have always looked up to him because he does a lot for the community, charity and I always want to push myself that extra mile when I see him in the NFL. He is one of the reasons I want to do good at sports. The one thing I didn't know about DeSean Jackson is that he had a huge foundation. I thought he just donated money to a charity.
