General Douglas McArthur |
A hero is a person who does something brave or a person who has a major talent. Douglas Mac Arthur is my hero in my life. He’s brave, honest, dedicated to the army, and motivated. He was a Brigadier General in World War I, Supreme Commander of Allied Forces of the Southwest Pacific in World War II and led the led the UN coalition defense against North Korean during the Korean War. He lived in the Arsenal Barracks of the Little Rock, Arkansas. He lived from January 26, 1880 to when he died on April 5, 1964. He’s important to me because he served in the military and survived the passing of his parents while he was fighting for the United States.
He has made a difference in my life because I have a greater appreciation and understanding for the army and what my pop did for a living. He also made a difference in the lives of others by inspiring the soldiers of the United States with his hard work. He faced many difficulties in his life. One, is his parents died while he was fighting. Also, he had to make really hard decisions when it came to military work. Lastly, he had to tell the military what to do or they might not have known what to do at certain, difficult times. There were no tragedies but he’s still a very important hero. Douglas` motivation was his father because his father and grandfather served in the military.

Douglas MacArthur with his famous corncob pipe |
His story in the beginning was very interesting. First of all, he was born in the Arsenal Barracks of Little Rock, Arkansas, on January 26, 1880.He had no brothers or sisters in his family. His father, Arthur Mac Arthur was in the military, so Douglas was born into the military life. Douglas attended the West Point Academy when he was fifteen. The first fifteen years were the best years of his life.
The middle of his life was the greatest adventure of his life. He fought in World War I, II and the Korean War as a general. He also aided his father in the war. He had two marriages in his life. His first marriage was to Henriette Louise Cromwell Brooks in 1922. Then he married Jean Marie Faircloth in 1927. When he was married to Jean he had his one and only son and named him Arthur MacArthur IV. He helped defend the islands of the Philippines.
The last years of his life were not that interesting. He got fired from his job around April 5th, 1951. He was still married to Jeannie. When he went home, 250,000 people welcomed him home as an American hero. He went to sporting events and Broadway shows with his son and wife. He died April 5th, 1964 after getting his gallbladder and gallstones removed during surgery, and he slipped into a coma.
There was extra information about my hero, Douglas MacArthur. Some of his obstacles were his father and mother dying while he was fighting for his country. He was one of the youngest highest ranking officers. He also dealt with getting divorced to Henriette. This was just some mixed interesting things about Douglas MacArthur.
The deaths of his family and comrades were very tragic. His father Arthur died in the battle field. His mother died in 1935 which was a major tragedy. One of his army buddies died by drinking more than a gallon of Tabasco sauce. These deaths were the most tragic deaths he experienced.
