During World War 2 the Philippines were under siege and the Pacific was being overrun by the Japanese war machine. Taking islands one by one General Douglas MacArthur was very determined to take back the Pacific.

Unfortunately he did lose a battle from time to time. He was even forced to leave many of his men on an occupied island. They were forced to surrender but he vowed he would return. He did return, rescued his men and conquered the island but to his surprise only a fraction of the men had survived.

Very smart and demanding, he could remember the smallest detail in a plan. He would force his enemies to surrender or retreat. He coordinated his forces in a peculiar way that usually worked because they were so odd.
Remembered for his determination and intelligence, his men stormed Guadalcanal and the Philippines. He took them back from the Japanese. He kept fighting the Japanese and at the same time Congress and President Truman ordered the little man and fat boy to be dropped on the cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After that the Japanese surrendered on the U.S.S Missouri. General MacArthur's war time duty was over. He retired as a five star general with countless medals including the Congressional Medal of Honor. As he retired he said "Now I close my military career and fade away."
