The definition of a hero in the dictionary is a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. This stood out to me because a hero doesn't necessarily need to be a man, but they need to have qualities like courage or braveness. A hero helps others or will do his best to help make the world a better place. My hero is Danny Thomas. Danny Thomas is the founder of Saint Jude Children's Hospital Research in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1962. His brilliant idea for this hospital came from when he felt he owed St. Jude a favor. Danny Thomas was many things, for example, a leader, giver, and supportive.

One important trait of Danny Thomas was that he was a leader. A leader is very important, they take charge and would do anything to make things right. I would say Danny is a leader in many ways. He made a promise to St. Jude that if he would help him make a decision between work and family that Danny would erect a shrine of St. Jude. This shows that Danny is a leader because he took charge in his decisions and prayed to St. Jude. He knew what he was going to do and he did it, like a true leader. Leaders know what they want, and he knew what he wanted - to change lives.

Another important trait of Danny was how much he gave. He wanted to give back to St. Jude after he helped Danny make a life decision. Taking what he got from St. Jude, he gave to the children who really needed it. He wanted to give to the needy children, for a place where they could be treated regardless of race, religion, or ability to pay. He didn't want any child to be turned away who needed treatment or medicine. This obviously shows how much Danny really did give to others He gave himself wholeheartedly to realize what his dream was. He gave up his career to fulfill his promise with St. Jude. He also gave so much time and money into this organization that he really does deserve the credit for being a lifesaver.

Lastly, I think Danny Thomas was very supportive. He supported the children and obviously their parents because he didn't like seeing sick children. He supported giving up his job as a television actor and he wanted to fulfill this dream of his promise to St. Jude. Danny was there for us when we needed him. We need to thank him because if it wasn't for him, today would be totally different because we wouldn't have as many places to care for sick children. He was always there for the needy children when they had nowhere else to go. Also, he kept his promise to St. Jude. He could have not made up his promise, but he did and came through with it.

Danny Thomas is really important to me. He means a lot because I have little siblings and if they were ever sick I know I could count on this hospital to take care of them correctly. This affects me in many ways because I would be so sad if there wasn't any hospital to help my siblings if they were very ill and my parents couldn't afford it. This means very much to me knowing that others can be happy going to this hospital knowing that it is safe and they will do anything they can to help you. All of this is because of one man, Danny Thomas. He is a true hero in my eyes and I'm glad to call him my hero.
