Denzel Washington

A Hero is someone who cares and gives, without thinking about the repercussions. They help the world without worrying about what people say or think. A hero gives ordinary people hope for a better life. My hero is Denzel Washington because he portrays this type of person and he is an example of the type of person I want to be. A hero is an ordinary person who has accomplished extraordinary things throughout their life.

Denzel Washington Jr. was born on December 28, 1954, in Mount Vernon, New York. His father, Denzel, was a Pentecostal minister at the Church of God and Christ and his mother, Lynne, was a beautician and former gospel singer. He has an older sister, Lorice, and a younger brother, David. As a child, Denzel, started working at barber shops and beauty parlors from the age of eleven. He was also a member of the Boy's Club of America and still is a leading spokesman to this day. At fourteen, Denzel and his older sister were sent away to a boarding school because of his parents’ recent divorce.

Denzel first considered a career as a doctor, but eventually decided on journalism. In 1977, he started to attend Fordham University and attained a B.A. in journalism. After graduating from the university, he moved to San Francisco. Denzel won a scholarship to the American Conservatory Theatre, and after a year, he left. He wanted to pursue a career as an actor. Acting was a relief and release for him because he was always uptight and tense as a child.

Denzel Made his first movie film debut in “Carbon Copy” in 1981. He then starred on the hit television show, St. Elsewhere, in 1982. In 1987, he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor as Steve Biko in “Cry's Freedom.” Two years later, he won this award in the civil war drama, “Glory.” Over the years, Denzel has won a Best Actor Award and a Best Actor Golden Globe. He has been in over thirty films and various television shows. He has become one of the leading actors in Hollywood and is now filming “Deja Vu,” which will be released in 2006.

As you can see, Denzel Washington has become such a well-known actor through his dedication and hard work throughout his career. I believe that this is the only way you can succeed in life and he is a true example. In conclusion, Denzel Washington is my hero because of the life as an actor that he has succeeded to become. His life is how he made it because of his talents as an actor, and anyone can do the same.
