Dale Earnhardt Sr. (http://nascarulz.tripod.com/demain.html) |
Dale Earnhardt Sr. was my favorite NASCAR driver. I used to watch him race every Sunday. In fact, he is the reason I wanted to race. We had and still have Earnhardt merchandise around my house. Dale Earnhardt Sr. is my hero because he was a fearless individual, a well loved family man, and a great driver.
Dale Earnhardt Sr. was not afraid to put his car where it should not have been. He was known for bumping other drivers at 3 digit speeds in the Daytona 500. In fact he got his nickname “the Intimidator” from when he got up behind people and stayed there until they moved out of the way. He had many nicknames, for example “Ironhead”, “Mr. Restrictor plate”, and “the man in black”. These names came from people who watched him on the track and knew he showed no fear when it came to driving.
Win or lose, after every race, Earnhardt went home to a loving family. He had four children named Dale Jr., Kelley, and Taylor. Dale loved his children so much that he diversified his business interests to include the ownership of a part time operation for his oldest son Kerry.
There is little doubt that Earnhardt was a great driver. In fact, many thought of him as the “people’s champion”. He was one of a kind and was very well loved. When he was believed to have lost, he often would come back to win it. When he was racing his last race, he was blocking for his son Dale Jr. and another team member. When he got loose on the track, he turned up and hit the wall. The other driver hit him from the side and he ended up dying as a result of the crash. He had eight top ten finishes and he will be remembered forever.
Everybody who watched Earnhardt loved him. He was a fearless, a loved family man, and a great driver. All his life, he loved racing and so do I. For these reasons, Dale Earnhardt Sr. is my hero.
