My hero is Doug Flutie, a former professional football player who now makes a difference with his charity called The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism. The mission of the Foundation is to help families with autistic children who are at a financial disadvantage. The Foundation supports a great cause that is another reason why Doug Flutie is my Hero. He has shown many characteristics such as leadership, strength, and integrity.

Doug Flutie spends most of his time helping his son's foundation. The foundation was established in 2000. He first started raising funds in 1998 and has collected over 10 million dollars for the foundation. Doug Flutie also created Flutie Flakes to get money for the foundation. The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism helps thousands of families each year. The foundation also teamed up with Hewlett Packard and Mindshare Collaboration to give 350 computers to families with autistic children. The foundation is a big help to the world of autism.

Doug Flutie wants to help develop new ways to treat autism. Autism is a developmental disorder which affects millions of people. It usually is developed in the first three years of life. The difficulty may be verbal or non-verbal. Autism is one of the five disorders of Pervasive Developmental disorder. For these reasons Doug Flutie is my hero.
