Diego Forlan

I think my hero is a hero because he has two of my most valued heroic qualities. The qualities I think that heroes should have are bravery and talent. But the qualities I think are the most important are, kindness and selflessness. Diego Forlan is the hero I chose, and is not only kind, and selfless, but also is talented.

Diego Forlan, age 31 plays on Atlatico Madrid, which is a team in the Spanish soccer league. Forlan also plays for the Uruguay national soccer team. He has won the Golden Ball, a trophy for being the best player in the 2010 World Cup. Forlan is also known for winning the Pichichi Trophy and the European Golden Shoe twice. Diego Forlan is only known for good things, when he joined Manchester United, in England for two years they did not think he was good enough to stay on the team. But Forlan isn't only known for his soccer career but also known for being a good brother.

When Diego Forlan was twelve, his sister, who was five years older than him, got involved in a terrible car accident. In that accident, her boyfriend died, but luckily she survived, though she was paralyzed. Forlan's sister was quoted saying, "The first thing he told me when I was lying in the hospital was that he would be a famous football (soccer) player and make money to get me the best doctors in the world." True to his word, Diego Forlan became a famous soccer player, but would have not been able to make it without help. His father's friend, the famous soccer star, Diego Maradona, helped the Forlan family pay off the thousands of dollars they owed. Not only did he donate money and help fundraise, but he also spread the word about Diego Forlan's soccer skills, and soon enough, Forlan was called by Manchester United to play for their team. This invitation finally paid off the debts for his sister's hospital fees.

Hearing about Diego Forlan and what he has done in his family, and soccer career has changed my view of the world. I now know that famous people don't have an easy life and it isn't that easy for them to become famous. I am also more encouraged to improve my soccer skills and practice more. I now also want to donate money to people who are in need and try to become selfless.

As you can see, Diego Forlan is a good hero for me. This is because he has the qualities I look for in a hero. These qualities are, bravery, courage, talent, and mostly kindness, and selflessness. He had the courage, bravery, and talent to become the famous soccer player he is today. But he also had kindness and selflessness to help his sister.
