My hero is NFL player Devin Hester. He was born November 4th, 1982, in Riviera Beach, Florida. When he was a toddler his parents got divorced, his mom got injured in a car crash, and his dad died. This made his mom depressed even though they were divorced. He also enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bulls. Watching these teams helped him with all of the issues in his life.

He went to high school at Suncoast High School. He loved playing football, baseball, and soccer. His best sport was football. He played cornerback, wide receiver, return specialist, and running back! He was the top Florida prospect and started his college career at the University of Miami.

Devin Hester was the best return specialist ever at the University of Miami. He was the only player to be on offense, defense, and special teams. He was known for his quick moves to get away from defenders. He had six touchdown returns and one field goal block return! With all of his touchdowns his teammates started to call him “Hurricane Hester” because their school mascot was the Hurricanes. Hester had done great things in college and people were expecting great things from him, and that’s exactly what people got!

In the 2006 draft his name got called in the second round of the draft. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears as a return specialist. In his rookie season he had many touchdowns. His first one was in his first game in the NFL against the Arizona Cardinals! This is a huge accomplishment for a rookie in their first game. As the season went on he scored more and more. The Bears got to the playoffs and Devin put on a show! The Bears made it to the Super Bowl and they got to receive the opening kickoff. Hester received the ball at the eight yard line and off he went. Hester went 92 yards for a touchdown! This return was one of Hester’s first records. This one was the “Quickest touchdown in Super Bowl history!" The Colts decided that they would not kick to Hester for the rest of the game. In 2007 the Bears decided to make Hester a wider receiver. The coaches thought with his speed he will be able to get big yards on long passes. His first NFL receiving touchdown was an 81 yard pass! Just like in the season before Hester had many touchdown returns. 2008 wasn't a big season for Hester because people knew what he could do with the ball. Hester showed many accomplishments even without receiving punts and kick returns. One of the main things Hester did during the season was sign a 4 year contract for 40 million dollars! In the 2009 season the Bears got a new Quarterback! When Jay Cutler came to Chicago, Hester was the Bears number 1 receiver! Hester didn’t have a good 2009 season due to injury and not returning kicks. In 2010 Hester had a kickoff return for a touchdown. This was his first since 2007! Hester was trying to set a record for the most kick/punt returns for a touchdown! This day came December 20th,2010, against the Minnesota Vikings. It was a 62 yard return! The Bears went to the playoffs that season and Hester had great playoffs, but the bears lost to the Packers in the NFC championship game.

Hester has a great life right now. He is an NFL player. He lives in a great house in RIverwoods, Illinois with his wife, and he has never done anything bad. Devin Hester had a tough life, but he is now going strong with his life. Hester is a tough, caring, role model.
