Dwyane Wade

by Justin from St. Clair

Dwyane Wade was born on January 17, 1982 in Chicago, Illinois. His parents separated at a young age, so Dwyane and his sister got to spend time with both. He mainly lived with his mom and her new husband who were very religious and taught Wade many special aspects of life. At the age of eight he moved in with his father in the suburbs on an agreement with his mom. He stayed with his dad for the remainder of school.(Dwyane Wade Biography)

Dwyane enjoyed playing basketball and football, but he was always second to his step-brother Demetrius. They both participated and played youth ball in which their father Dwyane, Sr. coached. During the beginning of high school Wade was more productive on the football field. His Junior year he stepped it up on the court and became the go to guy, averaging almost 21 points and 8 rebounds per game. The following year he topped that by averaging almost 27 points, and 11 rebounds per game thus gaining the attention of many college coaches.(Dwyane Wade Biography)

Due to a low ACT score, few schools would consider him for enrollment, yet Marquette accepted him. Head coach Crean would not let him start, but made him sit on the sideline to watch the games. After studying hard and adding twenty pounds of muscle, Wade was ready to play again. With his stats hitting the roof, he led his team to the final four but they lost to Kansas in 2003. He was then drafted by the Miami Heat in the fifth spot. After three years, with the addition of Shaquille O'Neil, the Heat won the National Title in 2006.(Dwyane Wade Biography)

Off the court Wade is a very generous and loving person. Once he bought a home for a woman whose infant had burned her house down. He is also the founder of Wade's World, an organization to help underprivileged kids. He hosts many outreach programs in Chicago and in South Florida. In 2009, when a Chicago library was about to go out of business, he handed the owner, Priscilla Coatney, a $25,000 check in order to keep it running. During the Haiti earthquake, Wade and a former teammate set up a fund, raising more than $800,000 in relief.(Dwyane Wade Biography)

I think Dwyane Wade is one of the greatest basketball players to ever play. With hard work and effort you can see how he progressed and made it big in this world. On top of this, the things that he does for charity and funds for young and disabled kids makes him a greater person. This is why and there are still many reasons why Dwyane Wade is my hero.(Dwyane Wade Biography)
