Danny Way

by Joe from Glenbrook

“My theory is to fight fire with fire. You have to dive back into that trauma, go back and do the same tricks that hurt you, in the same place. If you don’t process it out, those traumas will find home"

My hero is Danny Way. He is a professional skateboarder. Danny was born on April 15th, 1974 in Portland, Oregon. Danny's father died when Danny was 8 months old. He went through a rough childhood with his mother working hard as a single parent. His mother married again, and he gives credit to his stepdad for his introduction to skating. Danny also played football and baseball but quit for skateboarding. He started skating when he was 4. He lives in San Diego, California. He has 2 sons, Ryden and Tavin, and 1 daughter, Rumi. I chose Danny Way to be my hero because he is a professional skateboarder and I like skateboarding. I think he is brave and courageous because he does amazing skateboarding stunts.

Danny is a hero because he is brave and courageous and doesn't give up. After landing a 540 spin over the 27-foot-tall Mega Ramp at the X Games 11, two years ago, Danny clipped his shins on the deck upon reentry of the quarter pipe, did a front flip, and flopped onto his back-head-neck at the bottom of the ramp. His eyes rolled in his head. He lay motionless. It seemed like the end of his career.

Danny is an inspiration for people to skateboard. He is also a role model to never give up.
