Dorothy Dandridge

Dorothy was an African American living with her ma and a lady who helped around the house. She and sister and a friend would preform together, calling themselves the Dandrige sisters.

She met a man who also was a performer he and his brother were the Nicholas Brothers. They eventually got married. And had a daughter who was mentally retarded but Dorothy still loved her.

She would play in small roles and sing in night clubs. Her husband left her for France. Her career kicked up. And she got married again.

Finally after playing in lots of movies she was nominated for best Actress. This was the first African American ever to get nominated. And alongside her she took her sister. Even though she didn't win she was still happy. And after her 2nd divorce she married her producer, a white man.

She died from an overdose of pills, but her legacy lived on. Recently in 2002 Halle Berry got the award for best actress and she is an African American. The first ever. And you can see her movie.
