Daniel

by Lauren from Appleton

I believe the definition of a hero is someone who reacts correctly and morally in every circumstance. Many people would imagine this definition to be unrealistic or impossible, yet heroes are not normal people. Stronger than most, their character withstands the flames of pain, selfishness and greed. The biblical Daniel has recently morphed in my mind from a normal man, to a great hero. In times of trial and temptation, he stood firm and never wavered. When he passed through the valley of death, he trusted God. Daniel deserves to be remembered as a hero.

Daniel was a young man when his life turned upside down. Foreigners rushed into his country raiding, destroying and slaughtering its contents. Dragged to the country of Babylon and immersed in a very different religion, Daniel resolved to continue to trust and follow the God of his ancestors. Almost instantly Daniel’s resolution was tested. Standing strong, Daniel and his friends were greatly rewarded by their God. The trials grew bigger, the temptations stronger, yet they never turned on God. Daniel continued to earn the title Hero throughout his entire life.

Daniel walked through the valley of death several times, once staring into the faces of lions, yet he never let go of his faith and trust. Because of that God poured blessings down upon him, such as tact, knowledge, and understanding. Those characteristics led to promotions and favor with the monarch of Babylon. Daniel’s character was tested frequently, and each time he stayed loyal to his God. Daniel was a man with an abnormal faith in his God. Daniel is my hero because of his loyalty, perseverance, and faith.
