Hailing from Ukiah, California, AFI (A Fire Inside) had a rough start for sure, as most bands do. But, due to their hard work, dedication, and perseverance, their latest three albums (The Art of Drowning, Sing the Sorrow, and DECEMBERUNDERGROUND) have made them one of the most talked about hardcore/punk/rock/alternative bands today. Then again, consisting of the amazing musicians of frontman Davey Havok (David Marchand), guitarist Jade Puget, drummer Adam Carson, and bassist Hunter Burgan, how could they not be?

The Art of Drowning

I am sure that, just as I do, you will enjoy every track on the album The Art of Drowning, the 2000 album that first impacted their career. However, it was the amazing, fantastic, and otherwise spectacular track, Days of the Phoenix, that really got them noticed worldwide.

Sing the Sorrow

The 2003 album, Sing the Sorrow, in my opinion, has really impacted the way most of us look at hardcore/alternative/punk music. On this marvelous, ground-breaking CD, I can guarantee that you will enjoy such tracks as "The Leaving Song Pt.II," "Silver and Cold," "Girl's Not Grey," and any other song on the disc you should choose to listen to.

Their latest album, DECEMBERUNDERGROUND, is the best, most addictive AFI album yet. It has haunting choruses, enchanting melodies, and verses that really make you think. This album has a "sugar/ice" sound on tracks such as "Love Like Winter," "The Missing Frame," "37mm," "Prelude 12/21," and of course, "Miss Murder." This album gives you a chance to hear AFI at their very best, and to really understand the thoughts and feelings of these amazing musicians, (mainly vocalist Davey, as he writes all the lyrics).

Davey

In closing, AFI, and mostly Davey, are my heroes because they represent, in my eyes, all that I want to be. They don't drink, do drugs, (one of Davey's older shirts says "Drug Free"), or anything bad. In my opinion, we all have someone, no matter who it is, that we choose to admire, because they make us think about the good things in our lives. I have chosen AFI (Davey) to be mine. I'm thankful each and everyday that I have been given even a fraction of the talent AFI (Davey) has. I have been aspiring to a singing career since I was three years old. I am now 13, which means that I have kept this dream alive for 10 years. Davey inspires me to keep following this life-long dream, and go somewhere with the vocal talents I have been graced with. I'm glad my family has supported my musical dreams, even though I may be into a type of music that doesn't exactly appeal to them. Thanks, to my wonderful dad, for getting me into rock. It changed my life, and I love you forever. To AFI, thank you. You have no idea how much I feel like you guys are my family. I love you all.
