Cut Nyak Dhien is an Indonesian national hero. She kept fighting against Dutch until her death. Because she wanted to make Indonesia become a country that was completely free. She was born in Sumedang, West Java, 1850. She had already been married two times. Her first husband was called Teuku Ibrahim Lamnga and her second husband was called Teuku Umar. Both husbands, like her, are national heroes.

She got a ‘hero’ attitude from her dad who was also a war hero. She also had other similar attitude with her dad; both of them were people that have heart like a stone against Dutch. Cut Nyak Dhien was growing at a time when Aceh’s castle had worse and worse relationship with Dutch. In December 1875, her birth place was controlled by Dutch so she had to separate with her husband and her dad that were against the Dutch. At that, time Cut Nyak Dhien felt so shocked and she promised to fight against Dutch all the time and only married a man that wanted to help her to against Dutch. After 2 years her first husband died, she married again to her dad’s nephew, Teuku Umar. Her vowed that she would only marry a man that wanted to help her against Dutch. Teuku Umar was known as a freedom hero that gave many disadvantages to the Dutch.

However, Cut Nyak Dhien was getting older. She got a disease that usually attacked old people. Her eyes were being blurred, her number of army decreased, and food was hard to get. Cut Nyak Dhien’s army felt poor with her condition though Cut Nyak Dhien’s spirit was still big.

In my opinion, it is very uncommon for Cut Nyak Dhien to become a hero. Because, at that time ordinary women were very weak and coward. But, Cut Nyak Dhien made a difference by showing that woman could do something useful for their country not only for themself and their family. She is very brave and extra ordinary. I can tell that she is extra ordinary because, she did not feel afraid when she fought against Dutch. She never gave up even when she was in a very bad situation. Because of this I make Cut Nyak Dhien my hero and I want to copy her spirit.
