Princess Diana

by Emilie from San Diego

'I love to hold people's hands when I visit hospitals, even though they are shocked because they haven't experienced anything like it before, but to me it is a normal thing to do

“Anywhere I see suffering, that is where I want to be, doing what I can” (Princess Diana). Showing her compelling compassion for helping out others, Princess Diana spoke these words. Princess Diana was born July 1, 1961 in Sandringham, England. After becoming princess, she moved to Norfolk, England. The roots of her fame came from being the Princess of Whales. Princess Diana was a divorcée of Prince Charles and a proud mother of two boys, Prince William Arthur Philip Louis and Prince Henry Charles Albert David. Unfortunately Princess Diana’s life was cut short and she only lived to the young age of 36. Her death consisted of a tragic car accident by an intoxicated driver and several paparazzi chasing the car. Before the heartbreaking death of Princess Diana, she committed a countless number of heroic acts. She not only showed people how to care for themselves but to also care for others. Although Princess Diana may be remembered for her royalty and fame, she was also a very fearless, caring individual and for that, she is a hero.

Princess Diana showed her strong courage in her acts toward helping people infected with HIV. Not only did Princess Diana visit and help individuals sick with HIV, she wasn’t afraid to interact with them as others were. She showed her courage and bravery while not only thinking of herself, but thinking of others. “HIV does not make people dangerous to know, so you can shake their hands and give them a hug: Heaven knows they need it” (Princess Diana). Princess Diana showed her truly kind heart. She states that a person with HIV is not going to harm you in any way by just giving them a simple handshake or hug. She wanted people to show their love for those who need it the most. Princess Diana loved to lend a helping hand. She was always there when anyone was in need. For that, she was cut out to be Princess of Wales. “I want to walk into a room, be it a hospital for the dying or a hospital for the sick children, and feel that I am needed. I want to do, not just to be” (Princess Diana). She believed as Princess of Wales that she must help those in need. She wanted to not only live up to her expectations, but beyond them. She wanted to feel needed so that she can help. She was a very giving, helpful person. Princess Diana really let her fearlessness and courage show when helping out with the sick.

Princess Diana illustrated her beautiful personality and confidence and taught others how to respect and treat themselves well. Princess Diana always set forth her supportive, compassionate side. She has showed many people the way you should treat yourself and others. “Every one of us needs to show how much we care for each other and, in the process, care for ourselves” (Princess Diana). Princess Diana tried to tell us to care and respect ourselves and others. She inspires people to do the things she did by setting such an immense example. Princess Diana hoped people would be encouraged by her doings and strive to be like her. By that being said, she did things herself that she wanted others to do, hopefully inspiring them. “I like being a free spirit. Some don’t like that, but that’s the way I am” (Princess Diana). Princess Diana undertook the thought of trying to tell people to be themselves, even if others don’t necessarily like it. You are yourself, and therefore you control your actions and the kind of person you are. She set a brilliant example by being the person she was and not caring so much about the thoughts of others. Princess Diana always let her confidence shine, and that inspired people to do the same.

Princess Diana will hopefully now be remembered for more than her title of Princess of Wales. With her countless heroic acts, she will always be remembered as a hero. She volunteered her own time to visit and interact with those who were sick. She proved to others that just by giving a simple hug to someone in need could be life changing. She showed others that caring about yourself, and others, is a key in life. Princess Diana continues to inspire people to this day to be better people. She inspires others to do what is right and that the simplest things can change lives of not only you, but others. She demonstrated that you should never let a title or fame speak for you. Despite the fame and spotlights, Princess Diana shed her own light. Casting a dim shadow over her title, the true luminous light was shown onto her heroic side.
