Dr. Dre, age 39 |
Andre Romelle Young, or Dr. Dre as most would know him, was born on February 18th, 1965. His parents, Theodore and Verna had two other sons, who are now deceased due to sickness. However, their daughter, Shamika is still alive. Four years after Dre's birth, his parents divorced, making him angry and confused. He started in Vanguard Junior High school, but because of all the violence that Dre was starting to get into, his mother moved him to Roosevelt Junior High School. Dre started in Centennial High School in his freshman year, but due to poor grades, they sent him to Fremont High School. Still he had poor grades, which stopped him from getting many apprenticeships and going to college, so he focused mainly on music, social life, and entertainment for his schooling.
Dre started his rapping career when he met Ice Cube in 1984, where he then became part of the World Class Wreckin` cru. Often he would perform in a night club called The Eve after Dark, and was called Dr. J. based on the nickname of Julius Erving, his favorite basketball player. The World Class Wreckin` Cru eventually became stars in the early 80`s with their idea of electro hip hop. However, Dre was still in school, and because of all of his failing grades he eventually dropped out and his mother forced him to attend Chester Adult School to get a job worth having and continue his education he needed. Even so, Dre still dropped out of school, to focus more on the club he was DJ-ing at.
Dr. Dre enjoyed being the biggest thing in the record companies he worked for. For instance, when they named another person in the World Class Wreckin' Cru, he left the group at its peak performance and soon the rest of the group fell apart without him. Next he joined Death Row records, and was named best rapper of the year, until he met 2pac, who went under the same record company. The only reason he was able to stay there was because Snoopdogg was letting Dre sing many of the songs he wrote. Yet eventually, he couldn't take dealing with all of the people, so he left and made his own company, "Aftermath" Productions.
Dre made one more album, "Dr. Dre Presents the Aftermath" before focusing mainly on producing other people's albums. With Eminem, Dre hit it big with "Marshall Mather L.P." and the Grammy winning single, the "Real Slim Shady". Dre also made a Grammy winning album, called "The Eminem show". However, Dre worked with many more people like: Eve, No Doubt, and Snoopdogg. Yet, Eminem was still Dre's favorite rapper, and in 2002, Shady Records and Aftermath made a Joint Contract and today they still are co-producers. For the next few years, Dre had a two Grammy winning streak until 2005, when him and Eminem split up. There were many disputes about who got what money, or the lyrics that they made together,(they split up four times so far.) but they made amends and continue to make music together.
Dr. Dre is now 46.
