Vancouver Dream Catchers

My hero is the Vancouver Dream Catchers. The Dream Catchers are group of people that take in the homeless and let them play and improve their game in soccer. Also one of the most important people in the Dream Catchers is Rhonda Alvarez-Licona, the founder and manager of the Dream Catchers. Most of the people are from Vancouver or somewhere near Vancouver. Because I live in Vancouver, I have gone driving by homeless people and from this project I realize what they go through. It really changed what I think of them. I also hope that the reader will gain some compassion for the homeless and an understanding of why the Dream Catchers are making such a big difference.

The Dream Catchers started with an idea of playing soccer with the homeless. Then the news soon spread and people started joining. It's good when you're homeless to think of something besides shame from the present and the past. Also we met one of the Dream Catchers. His name was Peter Davies. He told us that the Dream Catchers only started a year ago and they already made a big difference to the homeless. Telling us about homelessness was great to him because he is changing what we think of homelessness. He even said at first he was nervous but the more he talked, the more confident he was.

An estimate for homeless worldwide is one hundred million and the Dream Catchers are fighting to get the number down. When you're homeless you not only don't have a home but you go to the streets and need shelter, food, warmth and you need to fight for everything. You even need to fight to live. It's a hard life that nobody wants to go through because now there aren't very good paying jobs that they can get. But every one is not out to get them because some people have a little pity and throw them a coin that may help them with money, but emotionally they're hurt because people are giving them money and that reminds them that they're the poor ones. They don't have a very good life and the people giving them the money know that the homeless don't get the good life like we do.

The Dream Catchers did wonderful things to help the homeless like first, they started awareness for what's going on and what you can do to stop homelessness. The Dream Catchers are not just one person helping the homeless, it's a large group of people making a big difference. Also there are people helping on the outside telling people of the Dream Catchers. The Dream Catchers are almost everyday dedicating their time to the homeless and you need to think how much effort the Dream Catchers put into what they have now been doing for a year.

The Dream Catchers have shown me a different side of life. I thought that I had it hard because of all the chores I do, but other people on the street barely have enough food to survive. With this experience it makes me want to give everyone a good life like ours. We should all have a smile on our faces instead of bad thoughts. The Dream Catchers have done that very thing by letting people have a chance to get homes, smiles and a good life. The Dream Catchers will continue their work until it's done. I may not do the great things they did but I'm making a small difference which will grow bigger with others' help.
