How many people believe in heroes? Too many to count. You might think that Edward Bellamy is your hero because he's mine too. He is my hero because he is someone that is inspirational and a role model to me. He is someone that believed in something very strongly and tried to pursue his dreams by writing several essays and a novel that sold so many copies.
A famous quote by Edward Bellamy: "If bread is the first necessity of life, recreation is a close second."
I think this quote is important because although Edward Bellamy believed we should have a strict, perfect world, he also believed that we all need to have fun too!
Edward Bellamy was brought to life March 26, 1850 in Chicoppee Falls, Massachusetts. As he got older he found his purpose in life was writing novels and essays that created an ideal America also known as Utopian fiction. Bellamy's philosophy was that if we all lived in a perfect society where the people gave to the government, and the government gave back, there would never be any problems. In this "perfect world" everybody would work and in return the government would take care of them. It was a give and take situation. The people would give and the government would take, the government would give and the people would take. Everybody helped each other.
I think Edward Bellamy is a hero because when he wrote his novels he was writing in something he believed in. He wrote about what he thought the world should be like. If you think about it, his philosophy was ideal. What he believed in and wanted to happen wasn't really impossible. If it happened there would never be any homeless people. Everybody would get fed and bathed and taken care of by the state, but in return we would work for the state. The cycle could never fail.
Although his philosophy never ended up working out, I give Edward Bellamy a lot of credit and respect for not giving up what he believed in. A lot of people, like myself, are confused about what they believe in. I mean, I know what's right and wrong, but as far as beliefs I am still undecided. Edward Bellamy knew what he wanted and shared it with the world for everyone to see. It takes a lot of guts to do that and I hope someday I could do the same.
Edward Bellamy impacted people's lives by making them believe that we should all be treated equally. For example many people want universal healthcare, which means that everybody, every single person, would have healthcare. Edward Bellamy kind of believes the same thing. He believes that everybody should be treated equally. Everybody should have the same amount of everything. Thats the kind of impact Edward Bellamy had on people in today's society.
I think the advice that Edward Bellamy would give our people today would be to not give up on things you believe in. To always follow your dreams as far away as they may seem. Edward Bellamy loved to write and he was good at it. That was something that no matter how impossible the things he wrote about seemed, he continued to believe. That's the advice I think Edward Bellamy would give to everybody now.
