Ellen DeGeneres (http://www.startribune.com/watch-ellen-degeneres-g (Unknown)) |
Ellen was born on January 26, 1958, in Metairie, Louisiana, to her mother, Betsy DeGeneres and her Father, Elliott DeGeneres, who were both single parents. She always "dreamed of being a veterinarian but she was not "book smart." So, Instead she waited tables, sold vacuum cleaners, shucked oysters, bar tended , painted houses, and worked as a legal secretary". (https://www.biography.com/people/ellen-degeneres-9542420) She tried everything but wasn't happy. She dropped out of college after only one semester and started performing in local coffee houses. Ellen became know as the funny part of the family when she had to talk at a public speaking event and got so frightened that she started cracking jokes. After that she got many offers to be a stand up comedian. She finally scored when she did a scene for Jay Leno. Then she started to make regular appearances on shows like The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Later with Greg Kinnear, Larry King Live, and Good Morning, America. She was also profiled in detail on ABC's PrimeTime Live. She was voted "America's Funniest Person"¨ on Showtime network and an American Idol judge.
In 1997, she came out as gay and married girlfriend Portia de Rossi in 2008. Suddenly many people fought very hard to take her happiness away from her. She strongly disagreed and not only to protect her own marriage but to protect others too. She protested against this law and finally achieved her goal. After a lot of endless trying she finally got back into her swing and hosted the Emmys two months after the attack of 9/11 and broke the ice in the sad time She also starred in the animated movie Nemo as a hilarious forgetful fish that cracked the whole family up. After that her career shot back to the top. She started the Ellen DeGeneres Show and it took off. Portia and Ellen both support many charities and do many kind things around the world. Ellen helps many people on her talk show by showing awareness and donating thousands of dollars to people in need. She also donates some of her own money to St. Jude (Children's Research Hospital) and the Humane Society.
I chose Ellen because she is such an inspiring person because of the way that she helps people every day on air and off air by donating money to charities and helping people in need. She has cheered the whole world up after a disaster and the world has helped her when she went through a hard time. She made it through all of the twists and turns in her rollercoaster of a life. Because of her talk show she was brought back up to the top to be loved by millions of people. She continuously gives back to the world and spreads love everywhere. She is a warm hearted human with an amazing sense of humor and she inspires people every day. To describe Ellen DeGeneres in one word is very hard but if I had to I would say she is Generous, I think that makes a pretty good hero. She reminds people all over to "just keep swimming".
