"We are struggling for a uniting word but the good news is we have a uniting movement. It is called HeForShe. I am inviting you to step forward, to be seen to speak up, to be the "he" for "she". And to ask yourself if not me, who? If not now, when" (Duca)? This quote from Emma Watson's speech for the HeForShe campaign expressed the idea that we should all stop seeing both men and women differently, and start seeing it as a spectrum. She claims that we should stop defining each other by what we are not and start defining ourselves by who we are. The HeForShe is all about reaching out to people where we can all be free to express ourselves without being criticized by others. Her trials and childhood is what helped her get where she is today. While living abroad in Paris, France, Emma stayed with her parents, Chris and Jacqueline Watson, who were both lawyers. She attended Dragon School, and took up theater. Emma Watson is known for a very talented multitasker who is a famous movie actress and at the same time, inspires many people about the inequalities people are facing and how we can put an end to it. "Actress Emma Watson is best known for her role as Hermione Granger in the series of movies based on the extraordinarily popular Harry Potter children's books. She also continued her education, enrolling at Brown University in the fall of 2009." (Derschowitz) As she continues her acting career and education, Emma was asked to give a speech about feminism at the HeForShe campaign after being inspired by her work. "Emma Watson was named a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador earlier this summer, and now the actress and recent college graduate is speaking out about gender equality."(Derschowitz). Emma Watson is a hero to men and women around the world because she gave them the opportunity to receive equality. Equality by definition, is the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, and opportunities. And that's what Watson did. Emma's speech demonstrated how she wanted both men and women to be treated equally. Reliability is someone who is consistently good in quality or performance and to be able to be trusted. Women relied on her to stand up for them. Not only women, but men too.
Emma Watson is a hero because she is not only a famous actress, but a reliable inspiration of equality to both men and women. The purpose for Emma's speech was to get her audience to join her to end gender equality because she believes that everybody has the right to be free and to have the same opportunities as everyone else. Feminists are people who believe that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. When Watson decided she was a feminist, people gave her a hard time by criticizing her. But she was resilient and was still able to do some research about feminism to prove them wrong. She quoted, "I think it is right that women be involved on my behalf in the policies and decision-making of my country. I think it is right that socially I am afforded the same respect as men. Derschowitz). She claims that women have the right to be involved in decision making and should have the respect of men. But it is not only women that are not treated equally. Today's media portrays the American man as strong and independent with no feelings. Watson claimed, "Men should be able to express much feelings as women do. Men should be able to cry without seeming weak, talk without seeming like they have authority over everyone." (UN Headquarters). Gender inequality will never disappear, but it can get better. Emma Watson has given her speech about the inequalities of men women to help them realize that they need to stand up for their rights. Her speech is meant to free women from being controlled and to inspire men to take a stand and help women achieve their dreams.

Many people relied on Watson and used her as a guidance to be equal with one another and to stop gender inequality. Emma Watson is one of the few feminists who is trying to making a stand to these inequalities. Feminism is about addressing the power imbalances that limit people's opportunities to live their lives to the fullest. We need men to join the feminist pursuit of social justice because it is the right thing to do. It is a matter of human rights, not of enlightened self-interest. Emma Watson gave her inspirational speech because she wanted people to know that she cares about the inequalities people are facing. Watson said,"You might be thinking who is this Harry Potter girl? And what is she doing up on stage at the UN. It's a good question and trust me, I have been asking myself the same thing. I don't know if I am qualified to be here. All I know is that I care about this problem. And I want to make it better. And having seen what I've seen - I feel it is my duty to say something." (UN Women Goodwill). Emma Watson is famously known as Hermione Granger from the series Harry Potter who gave a passionate speech at the New York, where she announced the launch of a campaign, which aimed to include men and boys around the world to end the inequalities faced by women and girls. Her famous speech at the campaign was not the only thing that caused Emma to be such a reliable person. She is also a selfless young woman who enjoys helping those in need." Emma has been involved in the promotion of girls' education for several years and previously visited Bangladesh and Zambia as part of her humanitarian efforts. She has worked to promote fair trade and organic clothing and served as an ambassador for Camfed International, a movement to educate girls in rural Africa." People may have doubted her, but Emma still stood up for what she believed in.

Emma Watson is an inspiration because she encouraged people to make a difference in the world by making a stand. She claimed, "it's not enough to ask men to support women, women really need to support one another, revealing that some of the harshest criticism she's ever received came from other women. HeForShe is about men supporting women and femininity and feminine qualities, because they are generally valued less." (Duca) She also said, "These rights I consider to be human rights but I am one of the lucky ones. My life is a sheer privilege because my parents didn't love me less because I was born a daughter. My school did not limit me because I was a girl. My mentors didn't assume I would go less far because I might give birth to a child one day. These influences were the gender equality ambassadors that made me who I am today. They may not know it, but they are the inadvertent feminists who are changing the world today. And we need more of those." (Duca). Emma Watson grew up with gender inequality her whole life. Not only her but close friends as well. They have gone through difficult trials where they were treated unfair because they are from the opposite sex. Being a girl did not stop Emma from doing what she loved. She strongly believes that women's rights is something serious we need to work on.
Emma Watson is a hero because she is not only a famous actress, but a reliable inspiration of equality to both men and women. She always inspired people to be themselves and to stand up for what they think is right. Watson once quoted, "We are struggling for a uniting word but the good news is we have a uniting movement. It is called HeForShe. I am inviting you to step forward, to be seen to speak up, to be the "he" for "she". And to ask yourself if not me, who? If not now, when?" (UN Women Goodwill) Watson shows she is an inspiration through helping others getting up from their comfort zone and by making the first move to stand for what they believe in. She claims that if she is not the first to take a stand, then who will? and if not now, when? It is up to us to take a stand and fight for our rights. It only takes one person to make a difference in the world. Throughout this research, she has taught me that men and women are not at all different but equal. Emma has stressed that both men and women must work together to achieve this goal. Even though Emma Watson is known as a famous actress who starred in the series Harry Potter, she will always be remembered as the young reliable women who's changed the lives of many other women around the world.
