Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah

by Andre Roberge from Oakland, ME

Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah, was born May 5, 1977. His father Dickson Kwadjo Ofosu had abandoned his wife, his daughter ,and his other son. Just because Yeboah had one deformed leg thought he would be no help to the family and just an anchor to the family. His mother had to carry him to school there and back 2 miles until he learned to hop on one leg to school. When he was 14 he wanted to prove everyone wrong that he was the same as everyone else so when he was 14 he climbed a coconut tree. He played soccer with crutches and he wrote a letter to an organization asking for a bike.

The organization had mailed the bike to him and he had started to learn to ride a bike with only with one leg. He rode his bike 270 miles across his capital Ghana with one leg. Then the organization had asked if he had wanted his leg amputated and replaced with a prosthetic leg. After therapy he had to learn to ride a bike with two legs. After he learned to ride a bike again he rode a bike again 270 miles with both legs across Ghana. The reason Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah is a hero is he raised money for people with disorders in Ghana.
