Fantasia Barrino

A hero to me is a person who has overcome an obstacle or some type of hardship and has turned it into a mighty triumph. This person must be honest, kind, show perseverance, and have courage. My hero is none other than Fantasia Barrino. Fantasia Barrino is the 2004 American idol. She won the hearts of billions of people when she stepped up to the plate and accepted the role of American idol. This job wasn't easy because at this time controversy is what the media wanted. The media tried to take her obstacles and turn them into road blocks, but Fantasia, like the hero she is, went right through them.

Why is she a hero? She's a hero because even though she is very successful, she hasn't always been this way. Nevertheless she's worked hard to achieve this success. Fantasia a young African-American female from High Point N.C., has always had a talent - a God-given talent. Growing up in a family of talented people, Fantasia used this gift in a group with her family. As she got older her voice became stronger. As she reached her teenage years, the pressures of adolescence started to erupt.

At the age of seventeen Fantasia was raped. Thinking she couldn't handle the pressures of school she dropped out. Also at this age she entered an abusive relationship, and exited a single mother. Although she was a high school dropout and teenage mother, Fantasia strived to make a way for her child. Leaving her daughter for a short time, she found that way. She became the American idol. Not only was she America's idol, she was the idol of young, single moms, and people who didn't finish school.

Fantasia's my hero because I can relate to her. I believe she has had to deal with things that can sometimes challenge your faith, but with all she goes through she still puts God first. I admire her because, as a teenager I've had to deal with similar things. In watching her I've learned how to face them and change the outcome.

I have learned that if you have a dream you should strive to reach it. No matter how difficult it seems, it can be done. Fantasia showed me that anything is possible if you believe. ''I can't let today keep me from tomorrow''. Fantasia never let anything stop her from reaching her goals. That's why she's my hero or should I say ''idol''.
