| Florence Nightingale |
Haven't you ever felt an impulse for doing something for someone else? It is a desire that suddenly comes up in your heart. Florence Nightingale did, her only wish was to help people. This unique woman didn't care how she will help but that's what she wanted.
Florence Nightinglae was born on May,12,1820 in Florence,Italy. She was a healthy woman living in Victorian England. Then, ignoring what her parents wanted for her and going against all of her family's believes, Florence went to the Institute of Deaconesses in Germany to learn about nursing. She began teaching nursing at the Institute of Saint Vincent de Paul in Egypt. Florence Nightingale established a school for nurse training in hospitals. She was invited to nurse soldiers in the Crimean War; there was when her first of many accomplishments came. As she arrived to the army hospital everything she could see was infection and many diseases. After she returned home she was already considered a heroine. She changed the whole concept of nursing and because of this she earned the nickname of "The Lady with the Lamp".
This woman is an inspiration for many people; she didn't care what she was working on, she even worked as a superintendent as long as she felt she was doing good for people. She didn't need money since she already came from a very wealthy family. Her desire of offering help came from her heart. Florence Nightingale didn't have an ordinary goal in her life. She wasn't interested in getting married and having a family, her only goal was to help as many people she could. While she was alive she did many things but one of the most important was that she left a mark in every single nurse. She taught compassion and commitment in their work and gave an example of the passion you should have when you're a nurse. The bravery of this woman gave as a result saving countless lives.
I would like to be a nurse but I'm not sure if that can change. One thing I'm sure of is that whatever I choose to do, Florence Nightingale will be my example. She is all I want to be when I grow up.
