Felix was born on the 20th of April in 1969 in Austria (Europe central). He is a skydiver and extreme jumper. He has one brother: Gerard Baumgartner. Felix has been passionate about this sport since his childhood. Indeed, he made his first jump at 16 years old and joined the Austrian army. It's because, he has a significant tattoo on the forearm with the sentence « Born to Fly ».

The adventurer has had many experiences in vacuum: in 1999, he was the first man to jump from the hand of the Christ the Redeemer, in Rio de Janeiro, from only 30 meters ! Just the amount of time necessary to open his parachute before touching the earth. He has too the World record of the highest jump in parachute : the tower of Petronas in the Malaysia city of Kuala Lumpur in 1999.

Why is he a hero? Because he was the first man to cross the sound barrier in 1225 km/h and highest rushing overhung a capsule of a balloon filled with helium. He dashed in 39 kilometers of the ground. He opened his parachute after his ascent to land in New Mexico. His descent lasted 4 minutes and 10 seconds! He trained himself during 5 years to bring to a successful conclusion. However, he was surrounded well and sponsored especially by RedBull who broadcast the event to the entire world.

Why is Felix Baumgartner important for us? Because it's a big man who surpassed all his fears and overcame the Physical laws and reason. It's an example that all is possible!
