Fran Drescher and was born Francine Joy Drescher on September 30, 1957 in Flushing, Queens, New York. Fran's parent are Mort and Sylvia Drescher and come from a Russian Jewish and Italian heritage. Fran went Hillcrest High School in Jamaica, Queens, where her classmates included Ray Romano. In school she met Peter Marc Jacobson, who become her husband in 1978.

In 1977, Fran got her first film role in the 1977 classic Saturday Night Fever, playing Connie. Fran moved to L. A., finding it difficult to get roles due to her now famous nasal voice and strong Queens accent. Even though that Fran continued to get small roles in movies though the eighties; she kept trying. Fran was concerned about the limited acting opportunities that might come her way on account of her voice, so after a trip to her friend, Twiggy, in the UK she was inspired to create her own show. Fran idea was formalized into the show 'The Nanny'

Fran fortunately bumped into Jeff Sagansky, the then later president in charge of CBS, on a trip to Paris. Fran gave Jeff Sagansky the idea of the show. Jeff was impressed by Fran and her idea, and promised to air it in 1993.

Also in 1985, Fran and Peter's LA home was trashed. The intruders raped Fran at gunpoint. The horrible experience took Fran many years to overcome. Fran did get to see her rapist sent to prison.

The Nanny was a huge success with Fran playing the lead role Fran Fine, for which she didn't have to disguise her accent. The show aired from 1993 to 1999 and won a Rose d'Or and an Emmy. Fran personally got two Golden Globe nominations for her performances. Also in 1996, Fran and Peter separated, divorcing in 1999 and haven't remarry. In 2000, Fran was diagnosed with uterine cancer. The cancer was only in the early stages and was removed successfully through surgery. The experience caused Fran to write her second book, Cancer Schmancer. The book turned into hit and Fran formed a non-profit organization to increase cancer awareness and increase early detection rates.

Fran Drescher has been confirmed as the face of a new Fox daytime talk show named The Fran Drescher Tawk Show. The show will run from the 26th November 2010. The talk show will run for a 3 week test and hopefully will be pushed for national broadcast in 2011 if successful.
