Fredrick Cossom Hollows

Fred Hollows was a really good person because he was an eye surgeon and would have been very rich if he hadn't decided to help out the poor and needy people by giving them eye surgery for free. Fred Hollows had a quotation which was: "To my mind, having a care and concern for others are the highest of the human qualities." I think this is a really good quote because it means you have a choice. You have a choice between helping others or not helping them. Fred Hollows could have chosen to give eye surgery at a costly price but he decided to help the poor by giving them eye surgery for free.

Fredrick Cossom Hollows was an ophthalmologist. He became famous for his work of restoring eye sight to the poor and needy people in Australia and many more countries. It has been thought of that more than a million people have benefited from his skills as an eye surgeon.

Fred Hollows was born in Dunedin in New Zealand where he spent the first seven years of his life. Fred Hollows was born on the 9th of April 1929 and died in 1993. Like I wrote before, his work benefited more than a million people which in itself makes a huge difference but he also helped most of those people for free. He also taught other people his knowledge and understanding of eye surgery instead of being selfish and wanting to be the only eye surgeon hero. I think this would be a huge part of why he was a hero.

Fred Hollows didn't make miracles like Jesus did. He followed Jesus' example in a way which he could, which was helping the poor. You may have heard about how Jesus healed the seven lepers. Well Fred Hollows didn't heal such a drastic disease but he healed people his way on a much larger scale. The quote I wrote in the first paragraph is another example. Jesus cared for everybody, not just certain people. You may have also heard about how Jesus had dinner with the tax collector. This is just like what Fred Hollows did. He didn't just help the rich people and the ones who could afford his treatment, he helped the poor and the ones that couldn't afford it.

Over all Fred Hollows was a great person and a great hero. He was a really good example of following Jesus' work in the modern world.
