Franklin D Roosevelt always said, “The only thing to fear is fear itself.” He kept reminding us that statement as he led us through “The Great Depression” and “World War II.” Franklin also created “The New Deal” which includes many very helpful programs like; the CCC which gives jobs to the unemployed people and the WPH which hired construction workers to build bridges and roads.
Franklin D. Roosevelt was born January 30, 1882. Franklin was an only child. Also, Teddy Roosevelt the famous president was actually Franklin’s cousin. Franklin saw private tutors until he was fourteen. His family could afford tutors because they were rich. When he was all done seeing tutors, he attended boarding school. Then, after he was done with boarding school, he attended Columbia University. He actually dropped out because he felt he didn’t fit in with his classmates. After he quit at Columbia, Harvard University offered him to finish college there. Of course Franklin accepted the offer. After Franklin was done at Harvard. Franklin wanted to go in the Navy but, instead he had to go to college because his mom wanted to. He met a girl who’s name was Eleanor. Franklin married her and they had six kids.
Some challenges and problems Franklin Roosevelt had was he was diagnosed with polio. Polio is a diagnosis which disables you from the waist down. He had wanted to go to the Navy. Instead, His mother told him to go to college. He was voted as president as the Great Depression started. He had a lot to do as the 32nd president of the United States.
Some of Franklin Roosevelt’s contributions are, he setup a social security system. Another contribution was the CCC, which paid thousands of unemployed men to have a job. He also created the WPH, which hired a lot of unemployed architects to build roads and bridge.
Some ofthe many honors and recognitions President Roosevelt had was, he was the governor of New York. He ran for Vice president but unfortunately, he lost the race. Franklin Roosevelt was a president that was recognized for being a president for the people who had hope and confidence when America was in really horrible times like the Great Depression and World War II.
Three of FDR’s traits are Sincere, Very intelligent and being trustworthy. He was a sincere man because FDR promised to make peoples lives way better with “The New Deal”. He saw how his fellow Americans lived and he needed to change it. FDR made peoples ideas matter. He is also very intelligent because he attended Columbia University but after he stopped learning at Columbia he attended Harvard University. Finally his last trait that I mentioned was Franklin being trustworthy. He was trustworthy because when he was elected for president 4 Straight terms I think that is considered FDR being trustworthy. Also, Franklin was voted as governor of New York.
In Conclusion, on one of the saddest days ever in Warm Springs, Georgia on April 12th, 1945 Franklin was signing documents and studying state papers while a painter was making sketches of him. He suddenly slumped in his chair. He had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. A cerebral hemorrhage is when pretty much your brain starts to bleed and can sometimes lead to stroke. On that very sad day, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was gone forever. Now it is one of the most famous presidential sayings from any president. “The only thing to fear is fear itself!”
