Florence Griffith Joyner

by Lily from Hingham

Have you ever had a hero? My hero has always been Florence Griffith Joyner. She is my hero because she is very dedicated, stylish, and confident. I think that she always was a great person.

Florence Griffith Joyner was very dedicated. She was born in Los Angeles, California. She began running track at age 7. She was very dedicated at an early age. She never stopped running and always tried. When she was running the Jesse Owens National Youth Games, she was very dedicated to her running and moves swiftly to the beat of her heart. Florence also worked hard. She tried her best to achieve her goals and was always looking to improve. She earned her title as “The Fastest Woman In The World.” Then, she began to get better and better. No one could stop her! In 1988, Florence or “Flo-Jo” went into the Olympic trials and she set the record for the 100-meter dash. She did it in 10.49 seconds. She then went on to win the 200-meter dash in 21.34 seconds. Florence always tried her best. She always worked as hard as she could to be the best and to always shine. She gave the world new material to work with. She always moved fast and swift. She could do anything she set her mind to. She always made sure she achieved her goals.

Florence Griffith Joyner had a lot of style. She always had long, colorful nails and a personality to match. Her outfits included the tight, 80’s style leggings with bright leotards. She always wore bright, vibrant colors. She had a very loud sense of style, which separated her from most of the other runners. However, in her personal life, she wore beautiful, conservative clothing. When she was seen out with her husband and friends, Florence was simply elegant. Florence was a fashion icon throughout the running world. She inspired many people and encouraged everyone to be themselves and follow their own dreams. She showed a tremendous amount of generosity toward all people. I really liked her style

Florence Griffith Joyner was also very confident. She always worked hard. She never doubted herself. She made sure she would always do well in her life. Ever since she was a child, she said, “I would love to be a runner!" She never gave up on that dream. Florence also believed she could do the impossible. She was a daredevil. She always made sure that she was doing the right move and putting her best foot forward. She never cared about what people thought of her. She always believed she could do anything no matter what anyone told her. She made sure she did what she thought was right all the time. I think she is always going to be remembered.

Florence Griffith Joyner is my hero because she was always confident in herself and her abilities. She had her own style and tried to do her best in all aspects of her life. I think it is amazing how she ran so fast and won so many awards. I admire her. However, I think it is tragic how she died at such a young age! She was only 38 years old. I wish I could have met her.
