Fernando Platas

Fernando Platas' real name is Fernando Fabricio Platas Alvarez. He was born in Mexico City , March 16,1973. He has been diving since he was 9 years old. He also studied administration and his brothers first taught him how to swim. Fernando Platas is very charismatic. He's been a top diver for a long, long time. In 1990 he won in Germany two tests of 2 and 10 metres. In that same year he won three gold medals in the Central American Games which took place in Mexico City.

He participated in the Olympic games when he was just 15 and he won a Silver Medal. He also has been in many competitions around the world like Sydney, Germany, Barcelona etc. He also represented Mexico at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain and in 1993 he won a Silver Medal in Barcelona. In his résumé, he is also distinguished by winning the Sport National Award in 1995 and he has twice been the standard-bearer of the Mexican Olympic Delegation in the 2000 Summer Olympics and in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.

What I could say of this althete's personality is that he is not the king of arrogant people who thinks that just because he knows something and does it really well that he is the best and he starts being arrogant. So this guy is just the most normal person you could ever see. Fernando Platas is a good example of responsibility, sweetness and kindness. He isn't arrogant and he is persistent in what he wants. He has proven to other countries that Mexico is someone! That Mexicans are people with courage and good manners.

In my personal opinion I would like to be like him, I mean like having the ability to be in the water, swimming all around and having the physical conditioning to swim, because sometimes you are swimming and you get tired. I'd like to be able to stay under the water more than 5 minutes, something like that, something that I don't have the ability to do.
