MOTHER TERESA by Tori: Mother Teresa is my hero because she helps others and expects nothing in return. Mother Teresa was born in 1910 and raised in Albania. When she was nineteen years old, she left her family and went to India to join the Sisters of Loreto. She had been a teacher for twenty years. Mother Teresa realized she was being called by God to work "for the poorest of the poor." Mother Teresa helped everyone, no matter what race or ethnicity. Mother Teresa began the order of the Sisters of Charity in the slums of Calcutta, India. Mostly helping the sick and hungry. She does not deny anyone food or love. Mother Teresa was accepted in the communities as soon as she served. Mother Teresa always values all people, even if they were a minority. There is a documentary made about their work. In 1969, Mother Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize. Mother Teresa is my hero for many reasons. She rejected her lifestyle to devote her life to the poor. That takes great strength and courage. She worked in hospitals even though she could have died from the disease. She put her faith in God and has helped others all her life. Mother Teresa tells us to be patient with others. She has inspired me to help others.

MY MOM By Elizabeth: My hero is my mom. I doubt that another person is more influential in my life. "My mom is my hero " is a popular response to the question who is your hero, but I truly have the best momma in the world. She is a hero that I admire most. My mom raised four children to become intelligent people, scholarly students, and distinguished people. My mom, Laurie, meditates often for pleasure and as leader of her corporation. She taught us, her children, how to meditate as well, which was not an easy task I might add. I feel she respects me just as much as she does her clients in teaching us the same techniques. Her spiritual beliefs follow a mixture of Buddhist and Christian ideologies. Before she took this leap of faith in a meditation retreat, she was very nervous. At first she was afraid of how to live her life in light of this new spirituality. It was not long before she overcame that fear, ultimately finding success and peace. She incorporates spirituality into her work because she is truly committed to this way of life. Another facet of her spiritual heroism is rooted in her belief of a personal and universal God. Her God is with her always, whether through the wind, in the energy released in her clients, or in her heart. No justice can be accredited to her merit. Amazing mother, best friend, impassioned leader, and spiritual guide. She has made me the person I am today. I love her with all my heart.

MY MOM By Sarah: My hero is my mother because every day she always does everything possible to make a full life for my family according to God's law. My mom is very spiritual. My mom goes to church with my family every Sunday. When I wake up, she will have already prayed and started breakfast. When I was a little girl, she taught me to pray, and I pray often now. Besides all this, she does works of service for our church. For the past year, she took the refugees from Sudan to church every Sunday, and she helps refugees again. My mom taught me to make God a priority. She never focuses on herself, but she is willing to do anything for the family. Above all, she loves us unconditionally and always gives her best effort. Of course, I don't know what I would do without my mom. She surpasses everything a hero should be and more. I will respect the spirituality of my mother, even when I'm older, and I hope I have a spiritual life like my mother. Mom, continue to show your love and your beliefs every day.

JOSH HAMILTON by Hannah: My hero is the baseball player Josh Hamilton. Not only because he is a talented athlete, but because he sticks firmly his beliefs despite criticism. When Josh was in high school he was one of the best baseball players in the world. Everyone thought he was going to have a successful career because he was so talented. The beginning of Josh’s career was very successful, he had offers from many major league baseball teams. When Josh was still in the beginning of his career his parents were in a serious car accident. After the accident, Josh was depressed and started abusing drugs and alcohol. Because of his problems Josh was not allowed to play baseball. His bad decisions almost cost him his career. But, Josh overcame his obstacles and learned to turn to faith instead of drugs. Josh received support from their pastor. He was able to play baseball again and surprisingly has a stronger career now, than he had before. He won MVP in 2011 for the American League. Now he spends his free time giving speeches promoting Christianity. He encourages people to turn to their faith instead of bad decisions when life gets hard. In 2011 Josh will give speeches about Christianity after his baseball games. He will talk about the importance of Jesus in his life. Hopefully Josh will continue to help people. Learn more about Josh and his story online at iamsecond.org. My hero is not only a talented athlete, but an advocate for his faith, something I strongly believe in. Faith is very important to Josh. If Josh were ever faced with temptation again, he would turn to his faith and not bad decisions.
