Peter Forsberg was originally drafted sixth overall in the 1991 Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers. One year later, Peter's rights were traded on June 30, 1992 with Steve Duchesne, Kerry Huffman, Ron Hextall, Mike Ricci, Chris Simon,two draft picks and cash to the Québec Nordiques for Eric Lindros. On January 21, 1995 Peter made his NHL debut in a match against the Flyers and scored an assist. Six nights later, he scored his first goal against the Sabres. By the end of the shortened 1994-95 NHL campaign, Peter had paced all rookies with 35 assists, 50 points and a +17 plus/minus rating. He won Rookie of the Month honours in April and was named an All-Rookie forward at year's end. He also won the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year and led the Nordiques to a Northeast Division title.
Peter Foresberg is six feet tall and weighs 205.He was born in Ornskoldsvilk,Swedan on July 20 1973.In 1995-96, Peter moved with the franchise to Colorado (now the Avalanche) and paced his team with 86 assists(fourth in the league). He played in his first All-Star Game and won his first Viking Award (top Swedish player in the NHL). He also won Player of the Week (December 12) and Player of the Month (February) honours during the season and helped the Avalanche win the Pacific Division title.
In 1996-97, Peter paced his team with 58 assists, 86 points, four shorthanded goals and a +31 rating, all despite missing 17 games. He was the runner-up to the Selke Trophy and helped the Avalanche win the Presidents' Trophy with a club record 49 wins and 107 points. In the playoffs, he led his team to the Western Conference finals with 17 points in 14 games. In 1997-98, Peter led the Avalanche to another Pacific Division title and paced the team with 66 assists, 91 points (second in the league), three shorthanded goals and seven game-winning goals. He played in his second mid-season All-Star Game, was a First Team All-Star and won his second Viking Award. In the playoffs, he scored 11 points in seven games; at year's end, he ranked third on The Hockey News' Top-50 Players list.
In 1998-99, Peter led the Avalanche to their fifth straight division title (this time in the Northwest). He played in his third All-Star Game and was again a First Team All-Star as he paced his team with 67 assists, 97 points and a +27 rating. He also averaged 23:29 minutes of ice time per game, knocked 108 hits and won Player of the Week honours on March 8. In the playoffs, he again led the Avalanche to the Western Conference finals, this time pacing the league with 24 points. At year's end, he ranked second on The Hockey News' Top-50 players list. In 1999-2000, Peter was limited to 49 games, but still scored 37 assists, 51 points, 20:55 minutes per game and 70 hits.
