Terry Fox

by Brandon from Calgary

What did Terry Fox do? My hero Is Terry Fox because he was a victim of cancer and he decided to do something about it to help others with cancer. Most people who have that just live a life saying "Man my leg has cancer, I'm going to die!" But Terry Fox was different in many ways. He was tired of seeing people hurting because of cancer. He decided that would do something to help battle this terrible disease. So he decided that he would run across Canada to raise money for Cancer research. He wanted every Canadian to donate just one dollar. He did it, he raised more than 24.17$ million dollars! Good job Terry!

The Run Begins Terry started his run at in St. John’s, Newfoundland in 1980 and ran halfway Across Canada! But, he had to stop. On September 1st, 143 days after his run had started, he had to stop near Thunder Bay, Ontario. The cancer spread from his leg to his lungs. He got rushed to the hospital as fast as possible. He lived for a bit, but on the night of June 28th, 1981, he died. A sad day, but a brave day. Ever since the day he lost his life, thousands of Canadians and people in other countries run to continue Terry’s dream. Join him by running a few miles and raising money. Terry would be proud!

How did Terry Fox's run help us? Terry Fox's run has probably saved the lives of many kids and adults who would have died of cancer if Terry didn't run. Pretty cool huh? So on September 18th this year, 2005 it wa the 25th annversary of the Terry Fox run.
