Anne Frank vs. Colonel Sanders

by Quinn from San Mateo

How do you deal with your problems? Do you talk to your friend? Do you cry in a corner? Do you whine about it on Facebook? You may deal with your problems differently than others. Like Anne Frank dealt with her problems differently than Colonel Sanders. Anne Frank was a victim of the holocaust, and Colonel Sanders was the pioneer for Kentucky Fried Chicken. So you can see that people deal with life-altering events differently than other people.

First of all, Colonel Sanders overcame his life-altering event by working. Colonel Sanders was only 7 when his dad died. After, he worked many different jobs such as a railroad fireman, insurance salesman, and furniture store owner. After continuously switching jobs he finally settled down in Corbin Kentucky where he eventually opened Sanders Cafe. While running this cafe he invented his famous spice mix made from everyday spices. His fried chicken became the most popular item on the menu. He later auctioned off his restaurant and started to make a franchise out of his recipe at age 66. He eventually died on Dec. 16 1980 at the age of 90.

Secondly Anne Frank dealt with her life altering event by writing. Anne Frank was a teenage Jew that was a victim of the holocaust. She, her family and 4 other Jewish people went into hiding to avoid the grasp of Hitler. Anne had received a diary earlier for her birthday and wrote in it while in hiding. She wrote about anything she could: literature, love, hate, life, death, anything that came to her mind. She was often optimistic considering the circumstances. “If I just think of how we live here, I usually come to the conclusion that it is paradise compared with how other Jews who are not in hiding must be living. Even so, later on, when everything is normal again, i shall be amazed to think that we, who were so spic and span at home, should have sunk to such a low level.” In the end you can see that Anne Frank wrote to deal with her tragic situation.

Although these two don't have much in common they did both have a life-altering event and they were both able to overcome it. Of course Anne Frank died, but she was happy, she wasn’t depressed or mentally insane, she was happy most of the time just from writing in her diary. Colonel Sanders was able to work and get over his dad’s death to eventually make a successful franchise. Both were able to get over their life altering event, even if they had different ways of doing it.

In conclusion, there are different ways to overcome life-altering events. Anne Frank dealt with hers by writing, while Colonel Sanders dealt with his by working. I, personally, wouldn't know how to react if i was faced with a life-altering event. So if you do something that someone else doesn’t do to deal with your problems, that’s normal.
