The definition of a hero is a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. I do not agree with that definition and in this essay you will see that heroes are much more than that. Heroes are not just men. I actually think woman heroes are more inspiring. Heroes are not the most powerful people or the most admired. Heroes are the people who touch people in special ways and make a difference in the world or a person's life, no matter if they're talented or admired. The characteristics of a hero are they act courageous and selfless. And have a strong belief about something whether it's how to treat others, how to act, Or how to live and put their ideas in action and no matter what people say they affect others in special ways. This describes my hero, Gabrielle Coco Chanel. This woman is passionate, confident, and inspiring.

Gabrielle Coco Chanel is an inspiration to me because she has a passion for fashion and isn't afraid of failing. Gabrielle had a very tough childhood. Her mother died and her dad abandoned her and she lived in an orphanage and couldn't afford clothes. That's when her dreams sparked, when she lived in the orphanage she was taught to sew. Little did she know that was the start of a new fashion industry. Most of the women around Gabrielle were stay at home moms but not her. She pursued her dreams of becoming a fashion designer. In the 20th century Gabrielle totally changed how women dressed. She was the first to design the little black dress and took ordinary pieces of items and turned them in extraordinary pieces of art. Next she did something nobody else dared to do. She took elements from men's wear and emphasized femininity and introduced the women's suit in 1925. Gabrielle stood up for what she believed in and made it on her own, which takes a lot of passion and courage which is necessary to be a hero.

Gabrielle was also very confident and classy. You can see that through her clothes. In Coco's time women dressed very conservatively and were thought to be less than men. Gabriel stood up for women and gave them a new look to introduce a spectacular type of elegance which she has showed in her clothes throughout history. "A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous". This quote by Coco totally describes who she is and what she believes in. Coco didn't care about what anybody thought about her wild new designs. Coco didn't have to rely on any man getting in the way of her goals. "I never wanted to weigh more heavily on a man than a bird." She was a very independent and strong woman who didn't depend on others to help her run her life. Gabriel didn't just completely change the fashion industry but she stood up for women's rights and showed her heartiness against sexism which I also am a big believer of and that is exactly why I don't believe in the definition of a hero. Women can be just as courageous. And Coco started this revolution for women and is one of the reasons women have more freedom today and are more respected.

All in all Gabrielle is so many things to me. She is strong, independent, classy, inspiring, passionate and so many more things I could go on forever. She started with nothing and really followed her dreams and is really a true princess. "To achieve great things, we must first dream." Said by Coco herself is true. Coco stood up for what she believed in and did what it took to conquer men and women inequality and expressed her thoughts and feelings in her clothes which have been remembered for years. I think there should be a new definition for hero. A person of any sex or race who believes strongly about something and has affected or touched somebody or history. Which describes my hero Gabrielle Coco Chanel who has inspired me to stand up for what I believe in and follow my dreams.

Not only did this women's ideas and bravery pass on through other women along history to today. But today her namesake company continues to thrive and is believed to generate hundreds of millions in sales each year. Coco Chanel at the age of 20 started her millinery business in France. Later she became revered style icon known for her simple yet sophisticated outfits paired with amazing accessories, such as several strands of pearls. In addition one of her most famous items is her Coco perfume and was the first to put her name on the perfume bottle. One of her most famous quotes is, "Perfume is the unseen, unforgettable ultimate accessory of fashion that heralds your arrival and prolongs your departure." Not only that but Coco's famous perfume is loved and sold today. In addition to the longevity of her designs, Chanel's life story continues to captivate people's attention. She started with nothing and did what she had to do to pursue her dreams. For example when she performed in Music Hall to get the money to pay for scraps to make her clothes. Pretty much to sum up her life is her own quote, "Fashion fades, only style remains the same"
