"When we land, we will meet German and Italian soldiers whom it is our honor and privilege to destroy ,the glory of American arms, the honor of our country, and the future of the world rests in your hands" General Patton said as he and his third army prepared to land in Messina, Italy. My hero General George S. Patton was a brave general of the United States third army which took part in the North African campaign and the Sicilian campaign and served in World War One and Two. During World War One he was not a general but a colonel. My hero is a freedom fighter he fought for the freedom of North Africa and to bring the Nazis and Italian armies to justice. This is my hero, General George S. Patton.
George S. Patton's childhood was very mixed. George s. Patton JR or Georgie as he was called, was born on November 11, 1885 in San Gabriel, California. He started Pursue his military carrier when he was only five when he listened to the tales of his ancestors that fought in the American Revolution and the Civil War. As a child George was diagnosed with what we now call dyslexia, a disease that made it hard to read and to write. Since he had this disability, George had to practice reading and writing a lot. Reading the bible was his favorite type of practice. This is Patton childhood and early problems.
George S. Patton is a hero for two reasons. The first reason was for his brave acts in World War 1 where he became the hero of the tanks, but anyone can become famous. The problem with Patton was he had dyslexia which made it hard for him to read and write and made it was extremely hard to graduate from the military college West Point, NY. The second reason why Patton is a hero is that Patton took back North Africa and Sicily, because of his actions and others we are free. Patton also served in World War 1 as a regular GI (general issue) like his other 4,355,000 patriots. These are two reasons why general Patton is a hero.
Patton's life story has taught me three lessons. One is the importance of leadership. Patton's men used to be some of the most unteachable men in the army, he trained them and trained them and they turned into some of the best men in the U.S arsenal. It turned into Patton's third army. Patton also taught me something to fight for what's right. Patton stood up and fought against the Germans (former Nazis). The last lesson that Patton taught me was that you can do anything even though it was extremely hard for him to read and write Patton graduated from college. These are three things that I learned from General Patton.
Patton had two main obstacles in his career and early life. Patton had dyslexia which made it hard for him to read and write and graduate from West Point. When he enrolled it took him 5 years to graduate from West Point. He was a late bloomer but he excelled in science and extra curriculum activities such as pistol shooting, swimming, riding, and cross country. His seconded obstacle he faced was regaining his ranks. During World War 1 Patton suffered severe gunshot wounds to his lower body therefore taking him out of action. He lost all of his ranks and started to regain them slowly. When he reached his flag rank (general, Colonel) he longed for battle and desperately waited for war to start. These are two main obstacles General Patton faced.
General Patton received 31 medals and many awards from several different nations during World Wars 1 and 2, but only some of the highest American awards could only be recognized. One award he received was in recognizing his long service he became a 4 star general. Another award he received was the Purple Heart. The Purple Heart is awarded to service members of the U.S Army when they are taken out of action due to severe wounds. Many people have received this award like General Patton. John F Kennedy received this award as well. The final major American award is the Silver Service Star. These are three high American recognitions Patton received in his career.
There are three qualities and traits General Patton was known for. The first trait is the ability to pep talk, before almost every battle and invasion Patton usually gave a speech to get his men pumped up for battle. The second trait he had was the ability to lead, that ability kept him loyal to his men and his men loyal to him. During World War Two Patton slapped two of his men, after he gathered his men to give an apology speech, his men interrupted his speech in the beginning they then started chanting that he didn't need to apologize. He walked off the stage crying tears of joy. The third trait he had was his war face. His war face was a stern look that he practiced in front of a mirror. He could turn it on and off. These are three qualities General Patton had.
Patton died on December 21, 1945 in Heidelberg, Germany, 12 days after terrible a car accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. Some theories say that George S Patton was assassinated. General George S Patton was a great leader and a hero that I will always look up to. He persevered through dyslexia and graduated from West Point. He regained his flag rank after being taken out of battle in World War 1. This is my hero, 4 star general, George S. Patton JR.
