My hero is Author, Gary Paulsen, born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, May 17, 1939. Gary’s mother’s name was Eunice Paulsen. His dad’s name was Oscar Paulsen, an army officer. He was married and had one child. He got married when he was only nineteen years old.
Gary had plenty of major accomplishments in his life. He wrote many books in his lifetime, and he still is writing books today. In 1957, he graduated high school. He completed the Iditarod, the longest dog sled race in the world!! He wrote a Newberry winner, “Hatchet.” He received the Regina medal. He received the Margaret A. Edwards award.
Gary Paulsen had a very interesting life. In 1943 when he was only four years old he had an amazing Santa encounter, that led to his story “A Christmas Sonata.” When Gary was little, his father was in the war as an army officer. In 1959, Gary wanted to join the army, so he got into the army by forging his parent’s signatures.
I admire Gary because he wrote so many good books. Gary’s best friend died when he was 20 years old. He had to work at a beet farm, it was back breaking work. His parents were alcoholics. He had D’s in school, and also had troubles with alcohol. He was a soldier in the Korean War, yet he survived!!!J He received the Regina Medal; he also received the Margaret A. Edwards award. Gary Paulsen published over 200 books, and is writing more!
I admire how Gary is always curious about life. He demonstrated his curiosity because he is an adventurer and loved to explore the undiscovered world. He was always learning new stuff, which he demonstrated because he was learning new things about life when he was exploring. He was very wise, he knew a lot about life already. Gary Paulsen demonstrated this by writing a book; his books told about his earlier life and all the stuff he knows.
Gary Paulsen is my hero, and he always will be. Gary Paulsen wanted to compete in the Iditarod again. A lesson I have learned from Gary Paulsen is that anyone can write a book, all you need is a good head.
