Giorgi Saakadze

When we look back to Georgian history we learn about a man called Giorgi Saakadze. He was a Georgian politician and military commander of the early 17th century.

He loved Georgia and Georgian people so much that he fought against numerous invaders of Georgia. He was a very wise man. That’s why he is my hero. He won battles with Turks in 1609 where he showed his great wisdom. Some of the Georgian noblemen felt envious of him and decided to kill him. But fortunately this was just a plan because someone informed Giorgi about their decision and he fled to Spain with his family. His son Paata was killed by Iranian Shah. Because he was his hostage it was a terrible tragedy for him. But he overcame it for his country's sake. The second reason why I like him is that he was a real patriot. Giorgi Saakadze remains one of the most popular figures in Georgia’s history. Georgian people will never forget his heroism and his victories.

Every Georgian knows his name. He is my hero because in 17 century Georgia was in terrible condition and he did everything that he could. He has sacrificed everything he could to make lives of his fellow citizens a little bit easier. His courage has inspired many of my generation, including myself. Georgian has always had many heroes, whose names we will never be forgotten.
