Galileo Galilei is my hero. He was born on Feb. 15, 1564. Pisa, Italy is where he was born. Italy was going through a major renaissance during his life. Many different people were creating and learning new things. When Galileo was about 30 years old, Shakespeare completed ‘’ A Midsummer Night’s Dream.’’

Galileo attended universities and chose a career that let him stay in the university. One of the schools Galileo attended was the University of Pisa. Then he transferred to the University of Padua. Galileo had a career as a scientist conducting experiments, inventing, and teaching. Johannes Kepler and Galileo Galilei agreed with the Copernican theory. They were some of the first people to realize that the Earth is not the center of the universe. Kepler was one of the few mentors Galileo had.

Galileo had adversities to overcome. He had to leave the University of Pisa to transfer to The University of Padua because of lack of money. If I was born in his time he would have tried to lead me into liking math and maybe having a career as a mathematician or a scientist, because he was a great teacher. Galileo tried to prove many things and one day he succeeded. He invited a group of professors and students from the University of Pisa to examine that light objects fall the same way as heavy objects. (He threw things off of the leaning tower of Pisa.)

Galileo achieved very important accomplishments. His discoveries with the telescope revolutionized astronomy. He was a professor of mathematics. He was also very good in science. Galileo figured out that we are orbiting the sun and 8 satellites are around Jupiter.

There are many different ways Galileo impacted our world. The whole world was impacted by the heroic act of pursuing discoveries that others thought were impossible. If Galileo didn’t make the discoveries he made today, we wouldn’t know very much about our world. He died in 1642.
