Ginny the Dog who Saved Cats

by Riley

Ginny was a dog who saved cats. She was a Schnauzer/Siberian Husky mix. She was born in 1988 and lived on Long Beach Island, New York. Ginny saved over 900 cats. She was adopted by Phillip Gonzalez. Before the shelter took her in, she was locked in a closet with her pups.

One time she even saved a man!! The man was blind. He was about to step off the curb into ongoing traffic. Luckily Ginny was taking a walk and noticed him and broke free from Gonzalez. Then she ran in front of the blind man and started barking at him, not letting him pass. Eventually he went back on the sidewalk.

Ginny lived with about 20 cats. She actually begged for them! One cat had only one eye and another was deaf. All the other ones had some sort of injury. The first cats she saved were a group of kittens. They were stuck in a heat pipe. Phillip was taking Ginny for a walk and then Ginny bolted off and broke the pipe when five kittens fell to the ground. They were all mewing. She saved them all.

Those are the reasons I think Ginny is an animal hero. I wish it was possible for me to be like her. I think she was amazing. Phillip Gonzalez was lucky to have such a wonderful dog. She wasn't any normal dog . She was special. She was Ginny The Dog Who Saved Cats. She died on August 25, 2005. She was seventeen, when she died.
