My hero is: Martin Luther King. We all know that just a few people can change the world. And Martin Luther King is one of those man who are well-known in the world. He is a hero. Martin was born on1929.1.25 in Atlanta,Georgia, the US.He was a clergyman and a social activist. But the most important thing is that he was the leader of African-American civil rights movement. Martin was a brave man.Although he was put in prison for 17 times,he never stopped fighting against racism. He believed black and white should enjoy the equal rights and he agree the Gandhi's ideas about peaceful protest. So in 1963,he organized a march to Washington D.C. and made the famous speech“I have a dream."Because of his contribution on the civil rights movement,he received the Nobel Peace Price in 1964.Just a year later,he organized a bus protest which had a result that black and white were able to sit together on buses. This is his first victory.Unfortunately,he was killed by a white man in 1968. Although i am not a African-American,Martin is my hero.He is a great and brave man.He dares to face the challenge of powerful people and fight for rights for those African-Americans who are being treated unfairly. There are so many difficulties but he chooses to keep going. In spite of the danger of being killed somedays,he isn't afraid and dare to fight for justice.I admired him.His courage and perseverance are worth to learn. He is a real hero and he will be remembered by us forever.

My hero is: Martin Luther King. Martin Luther King, the black man famous for his speech ‘I have a dream’, was killed in 1968. Though he was dead, his spirits and achievements will be remembered, he is my hero. Martin Luther King was born on the red hills of Georgia. He experienced racism when he was still a child. A bus driver asked him to give seat to a white man. He didn’t know way, and he was angry. Since then, he had been keeping a strong belief that black and white people should enjoy equal rights. After he grew up, he was strongly affected by Gandhi’s ideas about peaceful protests. In 1963, he made the famous speech ‘ I have a dream’. And in 1964 he received the Nobel Peace Price. After learning his experiences, I realized that we should never give up our dreams. Now and then, we suffer from displeasure and injustice, but how many of us have ever thought of fight like him?In my opinion, Martin Luther King was a great fighter. He held on to his belief so that no one could shake it. Personally, I think he was a great man. He taught me not to kneel down to bad things like violence. His achievements will never, ever be forgotten. He is my hero.

My hero is: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. My hero is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He is special to me because he was a civil rights leader. He didn’t like how white and black people were separated. His goal was to bring everyone together. He wanted every person to be treated fairly.

My hero is: martin luther king jr.. Martin Luther King is my hero because he believed that all people should be treated equal. People should never be treated poor because of the colour of their skin, it's what's inside that counts.

My hero is: Martin Luther King jr. He was a great man and if it wasn't for him today black people in America would still be living in such sad worlds and it wouldn't just effect the USA it would effect the rest of the world. What happened it that time was wrong and it should never happen again. Martin Luther King has taught not just me but im sure many people to live in peace and harmony together. Martin Luther King will always be my hero because he teaches me that we CAN overcome obsticals like racism and that we should love each other and forgive. REST IN PEACE MARTIN LUTHER KING! My hero is: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is my hero because if it was'nt for Martin Luther King then us black or colored people would still be segregated and prejudiced. Then Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. took a stand and marched, got arrested several times and spoke for our rights and freedom. This is why Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is my hero.

My hero is: Martin Luther King. I think he is amazing, he stood up for what he believed and never doubted it, he got thrown in jail for doing what he believed was right. i believe that he was happy when he was assassinated because he died doing what he loved most. He brought 2 nations together to be one. In my eyes he is the most influential person in history.

My hero is: Martin Luther King J.R.. Martin Luther King J.R. was a great man. He stood up for others in harsh times for African-Americans. He fought with words not weapons. He is an inspiration to all men and women every where. If he was alive today many people would be different. For me he stood strong no matter what till he died. Thats what I have to say.

Sara from from Preston, , England, UK- - 3/10/2010 3:24:08 AM
My hero is: Martin Luther King Jr. My hero is Martin Luther King because, regardless of the torment which he faced, at the end of the day, he was strong enough to stand up for what he believed. Not only this, but he knew that racism was wrong; it doesn’t matter what skin colour or belief you have. Because, at the end of the day, everyone is equal. The only thing people can ever judge you on is your character.

Dhrupad from from Sydney, , NSW, Australia- - 3/9/2010 10:38:54 PM
My hero is: Dr. Martin Luther king. Martin had a dream. a dream that he could not understand why other people didn't like. If he was alive, he would have lived a very happy dream.

Laquan Robinson from from Columbia, , South Carolina, United States- -
My hero is: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was truly a man to remember. He fought for what he believed in without violence or dirty words. He fought with marches, speeches and much more. He was just a magnificent person. If he wasn't assassinated by accused James Earl Ray he would probably be around still telling his story. A telling people not to use violence and he would of made this world a better place.

Laquan Robinson from from Columbia, , South Carolina, United States- -
My hero is: Malcolm X. Malcolm X was just like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was a non violent person and was always careful of what he said and did. He is my hero because he tried to make us African-Americans free.

My hero is: Martin Luther King Jr.. My hero is Martin Luther King Jr. because you can feel the pain the things he went through to be peacemaker. He was willing to go to jail for peace. He believed all men and woman where created equal. He also believed in not following people’s rules. For example Rosa Parks inspired him. At the time woman were not considered equal to men but he was still inspired by her even though that was against what people believed and thought to be right. Martin Luther King Jr. is a hero because he helped to end segregation of all people

My hero is: MLK. First to me Hero stands for Helping everyone realise Oneness. Second my hero is Martin Luther King for leading the way to a peaceful world; had he not been there this world would have been worse off. As i wrote in this poem:

These days the reign of terror,
seems to be all there is on peoples minds.
Is it nice to live in a world where
we turn each other in to victims?
Is it nice to give in to acts of terror,
towards those you condemn utterly,
for doing just that?
Is that the world you want to live in,
or is there another world being revealed
in your heart?
A world of mercy where we are equally human.
A world where we overcome our differences,
by listening to our heart.
A world dreamed of by the honorable Martin Luther King.
Who was an example to many people,
of how we could live our lives as well.

Darius Ramey from from Chester, , Virginia, U.S.A- - 1/13/2009 3:13:45 AM
My hero is: Martin Luther Jr.. My Hero Martin Luther King Jr. was a very important man. He is known nationwide for his accomplishments. He has inspired many in his mere approximate 30 years lifetime. Martin Luther King Jr. stood up for a whole race and then some. What makes this so noble was that it was not selfish and did not help him at all. What made King so famous was his “I Have a Dream” speech. In this speech, he stated that all men are created equal. By saying that in this century, it sounds forced and routine. King was probably also a role model for all blacks back then. His words made even some of the racist think twice, I believe. Martin Luther King Jr. was alive during the segregation period and wanted change. I admire him for his dedication to change what is wrong. Of course, one might say he was just a normal man trying to get attention, but he was more. He was just a human like any other, and this was his point. If it weren’t for his speech, I probably would not be writing or reading much of anything. King is, in my eyes, the image of blacks. He did a lot for us. I’m not just talking about blacks, but Americans in general. At this time, not many think that blacks are beneath them, I believe this is because of him. On the other hand, he did have some help, I’m sure, but I don’t know of his followers. He is no Barack, but if it weren’t for him, I don’t think Barack would even exist. Martin Luther King Jr.’s achievements prove that a hero doesn’t have to be someone that can fly and shoot lasers. He is my hero because he stood up for what is right. He also changed a whole nation with a few words. People now try to change through war. If everyone could be like this, there would be no problems.

My hero is: Dr.Martin Luther King. Martin Luther King Jr. was born in Atlanta on Sunset Adams Street in 1929. If he was still alive today, he would be 67 years old. He changed his name from Michael L. King. As a kid, he liked to fly kites, ride his bike and play baseball and football. He was also a paper boy. His mom taught him to read before he went to school. He read books about black people who were heroes, like George Washington Carver. Jim Crow Laws were laws that separated blacks from whites. Martin's parents did not like segregation, which means keeping blacks and whites apart. They did not like that black people had to sit in the uncomfortable chairs and the white people had all the comfortable chairs. They did not like that there were lots of restaurants open for whites and hardly any open for blacks. They did not like that blacks had to use different drinking fountains from whites. They did not like that they had to pray without whites in church. They just wanted to be their friends. Blacks were cursed, chased, lynched and killed, just because of the color of their skin. A white mom wouldn't let her son play with Martin Luther King Jr. because he was a different color. When blacks came into the stores, white people wouldn't answer their questions. Another person said to get out of the bus seat and Martin said it was not fair. Martin was having a hard time liking whites. White people treated him well at Crozer College, but he was still angry. He wanted to be a minister, but before that, he wanted to be a professor. Martin thought he could do the same in America as Gandhi did with the Indians. He married Coretta Scott in 1953. She thought the same way as he did. On Dec. 1, 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white person. It started a boycott of the buses by the black people. They didn't know if it would work, because no one else had tried it before. But the bus boycott worked. It took one year to change the rules. Martin and Coretta had a baby girl in 1956. Martin Luther King Jr. was the president of the Montgomery Improvement Association. He believed that love, not violence, was the most powerful weapon, just like Gandhi believed. People were arrested when white people wouldn't serve them in 1960 and they wouldn't leave the restaurant. Martin and his friends were arrested when they weren't doing anything wrong. John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy helped get Martin out of jail when he was arrested. Martin told people not to obey unjust laws. Children marched in the Children's March in 1963. The police were too surprised to do anything. Police squirted people with hoses and they were bitten by dogs. People watched on TV and started thinking about black people's rights. White people came to hear Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech in Washington, DC. Two girls were killed while changing into their choir robes when a church bomb exploded. People were beat up and killed over voting rights for black people. Martin was against the Vietnam War. He did not like violence. People were tired of marching. In 1968, people started to get violent and break windows. Martin was 39 when he was killed. He was bleeding a lot and people ran out. His wife wanted to stop the violence, just like Martin Luther King Jr. did Many visitors to the MY HERO web site have written about Martin Luther King. he was a great man who stood up for what he believed in. He brought together to nations and helped us see things in someone else's eyes. He is such a great guy and will always be remembered in my life. Paula P from somewhere in Kansas My hero is Martin Luther King Jr., because he wanted equality for all people. I remember listening to him as young child and his words mesmerized me. I want my daughter to know who Martin was and what he stood for. Martin Luther is my hero and always will be. Pamela Staples from Chicago Martin Luther King Jr. took a stand against powerful people when no one else would. He kept trying once he was doubted and threatened. Martin Luther King Jr. got people around the world to look past "black" labeling and accept and love him. That is why Martin Luther King Jr. is my hero. Dr. King is my hero because I believe he was one of the greatest liberals that ever walked this earth. I must have read his "I Have a Dream" speech hundreds of times and I still can't read it with dry eyes. What a giant! Dirk Goes from Amsterdam, Holland Dr. King is one of the few true American heroes. In an age where it has become fashionable to hero-bash--uncovering the nefarious backgrounds and destroying the myths of American heroes, like George Washington and John F. Kennedy--the name of Dr. King has remains unblemished, and justifiably so. Dr. King stood for what he believed, and was a man ahead of his time. In the face of adversity, he dedicated and sacrificed his life for the equality of all people. His dream, which many today still share, has continued to live on as his legacy. His adversaries took his life, but his heroic legacy will never die. "Free at last, free at last, thank God almighty we're free at last." Rob Petrone from New York, New York Because he was brave enough to preach his thoughts without fear. Some day I want to have enough courage and love to be able to do that.

My hero is: Martin Luther King Jr.. Martin Luther King was born a nobody...just an ordinary black living by the Crow Laws (the world thought). But he grew and grew to be a substanshal adult...who changed the world for black and white. From the Marches he led to his "I Have a Dream" speech, he changed it. You may ask why do you say that, I say this because without Martin Luther King, we would be nowhere in Civil Rights at this time. We would still have slaves, and be treating blacks badly. But because of him, he helped us. We realized that it wasn't right. Without him we still might have the thought...all men are treated equal [unless there black]. This is what I think about my Hero who [did] change the world!

My hero is: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr Martin Luther King Jr is my hero because he fought for the rights of all people. I believe all people are created equal just as he did. It doesn't matter the color of your skin, where you were born or how much money you have. Dr King was born in Atlanta, GA in 1929 when discrimination was normal. He fought in a PEACEFUL way for the rights of all people. He was the youngest person ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 when he was 35. He was assassinated in 1968 but his dream has lived on. I think he is a hero to the many people he helped when he was alive and even since his death.

My hero is: Martin Luther King. King is my hero although i'm 23 I still feel and think strongly on how much this country has changed. Although I never faced the things he did I felt the hatred as a child being multi racial. I see how much this this country has diversified in so many ways and it makes me glad to know that someone stood up for what they believed and was sadly killed killed because of it. Who knows where this country would be if it wasn't for his strong influence. Although racism still exists I hope that many can overlook and think positively because that's how King would want it to be.

My hero is: Martin Luther King JR. He was a brave man and we can all learn something from this man. He stood up for himself and everyone else. He did something that he thought would be correct. He wasn't the type of man that just stood there and said, well oh whites and blacks will never get along, he took some action and thanks to him were all living together. We kids hang out with anyone, and we all should give thanks to Martin Luther King Jr.

My hero is: My Hero is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. Martin Luther King, Jr., (January 15, 1929-April 4, 1968) was born Michael Luther King, Jr., but later had his name changed to Martin. His grandfather began the family's long tenure as pastors of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, serving from 1914 to 1931; his father has served from then until the present, and from 1960 until his death Martin Luther acted as co-pastor. Martin Luther attended segregated public schools in Georgia, graduating from high school at the age of fifteen; he received the B. A. degree in 1948 from Morehouse College, a distinguished Negro institution of Atlanta from which both his father and grandfather had graduated. After three years of theological study at Crozer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania where he was elected president of a predominantly white senior class, he was awarded the B.D. in 1951. With a fellowship won at Crozer, he enrolled in graduate studies at Boston University, completing his residence for the doctorate in 1953 and receiving the degree in 1955. In Boston he met and married Coretta Scott, a young woman of uncommon intellectual and artistic attainments. Two sons and two daughters were born into the family. In 1954, Martin Luther King accepted the pastorale of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. Always a strong worker for civil rights for members of his race, King was, by this time, a member of the executive committee of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the leading organization of its kind in the nation. He was ready, then, early in December, 1955, to accept the leadership of the first great Negro nonviolent demonstration of contemporary times in the United States, the bus boycott described by Gunnar Jahn in his presentation speech in honor of the laureate. The boycott lasted 382 days. On December 21, 1956, after the Supreme Court of the United States had declared unconstitutional the laws requiring segregation on buses, Negroes and whites rode the buses as equals. During these days of boycott, King was arrested, his home was bombed, he was subjected to personal abuse, but at the same time he emerged as a Negro leader of the first rank.

My hero is: martin luther king. Martin luther king revolutionized the world. He debated the rights of blacks and was very set on his goal. To begin with, king was a preacher who spoke in biblical cadences ideally suited to leading a stride toward freedom that found it's inspiration in the Old Testament story of the Israelites and the New Testament gospel of Jesus Christ. Being a minister not only put king in touch with the spirit of the black masses but also gave him a base within the black church, then and now the strongest and most independant of black institutions.

My hero is: Martin Luther King. Martin Luther King is our hero because we think he made the lives of black people better. We would not be able to play with many of the children in our class and school if Martin had not acted as he had. We think that Martin Luther King is a great guy because he gave us the opportunity to know what black people are like. He stood up for what he believes in. He showed the world that everyone is equal because we are all created in the same way. Martin Luther King never gave up, and now we are able to live in a better world because of this. We are very grateful for what he did for all of us.

And not drink out of different water fountains. Also not having the blacks and the whites not in the same church. What was better is that he did everything in a peaceful way and not a violent. He would also set up boycotts on the bus. He was a good leader for blacks and convinced them that the way the whites treat them is not right but told them to not be violent because violence is not the answer to solve problems. That is why i consider Martin Luther King Jr. as a huge HERO!!!!!

My hero is: Martin Luther King Jr.. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a famous leader of the American civil rights movement and a Baptist minister. He was born as Michael King on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He began using the name "Martin Luther" in honor of Martin Luther (priest and founder of the Lutheran Church) after he became a minister, though he never legally changed his name. To this day, he lived and died as Michael King. He entered Morehouse College at the age of fifteen, and he skipped his ninth and twelfth high school grades without formally graduating. In 1951 King began doctoral studies in Systematic Theology at Boston University, and received his Ph.D. in 1955. In 1964, King became the youngest man to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize (for his work as a peacemaker, promoting nonviolence and equal treatment for different races). On April 4, 1968, Dr. King was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. In 1977, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Jimmy Carter after his death. In 1986, Martin Luther King Day was established as a United States holiday, only the fourth Federal holiday to honor an individual. In 2004, King was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal. He was known as a great public speaker. King's most famous speech is the "I Have a Dream" speech.

My hero is: Matin Luther King Jr.. Martin Luther King Jr. is my hero because he is a strong black man that died fighting for what he believe. During MLK's lifetime blacks were treated unfair, and MLK felt that everyone should be treated equally, with justice. He never back down during hard times and kept his head up. MLK was not the only person that stood of black rights during this time but he was the leader of the movenent and that is apart of the reason I appreciate what he has done for me. Because without him my life would be completely different for the worse. So Martin Luther King is my hero because he was strong, determind, vocal on his thoughts, and improved my life and every other citizen in America. He was a justice man, he is my hero.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a brave man who was not afraid of expressing his ideas even if they were different. He knew that if you believed in something, you should stick with it, even if everyone else disagreed it. It took liters and gallons of courage to take these risks to help the African Americans be freed from discrimination. Just because of the color of your skin, it doesn't mean that you have cruel personalities, and that you are not a human being. Because of Martin Luther King Jr., our lives will be changed forever, and the world, holding hands, will be at peace.
