My hero is: Shlomo Zakheim. I would like to nominate Mr Shlomo Zakheim.
Mr. Zakheim (aka Steve Zakheim) is a volunteer medic for hatzala. At the time of the 9-11 disaster he worked for MetroCare.
At the time of the terrorist attack Shlomo did NOT think twice- he ran to his car, (which got destroyed by the towers) risked his life and ran into the buildings. Shlomo Z that day saved civilians, FDNY, NYPD, and other EMS technicians. i would like to nominate him as my hero for always putting others needs ahead of his own.. I would like to mention his heroism and selflessness did not end on 9-11.... Last year with after the disaster in Haiti he sponsored a Rescue mission which he himself went on and helped save countless people there as well!
You can see newspaper clippings in Daily News, NY Post and others about Mr Zakheim.

My hero is: Mattie Stepanek. Mattie, God only gave you to us here for such a short time. How sad, that like a beautiful flower, and so few got to meet and see you. Your success and showing your great love and achievements came before You were called home. I share the sadness of your loss with your Mother, friends, and the world. Your soul will shine foreveer, wherever your name is brought into the tone of those who value and cheerfully live life. I cried at your words, because of their strength and gentleness. You may be gone from us in flesh, yet I know your time here has spawned a continuance of the desire to have beauty in our life and world. This isn't so much a letter of thanks, as it is a prayer of your spiritual and joyful existance continues each day in each and every one of us left behind to carry on your work and legacy.
Thank you, and may we all regard and remember the name "Mattie Stepanek" as one of the great ones. Your admirer and life student, Vincent Tooley U.S. Navy (retired)

My hero is: United 93 9/11 passengers. The United 93 flight passengers are my heroes because they were brave, courageous and un-selfish. The thought and images from the recently released films about their story fill my head with sadness and happiness both at the same time. To know that families were actually contacted from mid-air during the attack and that the point of the calls were to say "last goodbye's" is heartbreaking. It must have been emotional and memorable for those who were not related to the passengers but were the ones receiving the incoming calls from the plane. September 11th will always be a day in infamy that i will forever remember but the heroes of flight 93 i will never forget. I will always carry on their stories for generations. 44 passengers aboard came together as one and decided to spend there last moments destroying a plan that seperated them from their families and possibly could have killed hundreds of more innocent lives, attempted to take back control of the plane, to which their lives were lost. My condolescences go out to all the families of these lost but never forgotten passengers. God bless the Flight United 93 passengers, my heart is with you.

The story of Flight 93 is a national treasure — a story of hope in human courage and cooperation. When confronted with the gravity of their situation, the passengers and crew of Flight 93 chose to act heroically and sacrifice their lives for their country. These 40 heroes made a democratic decision to fight back against terrorism and thereby thwarted a planned attack on our nation’s capital, saving countless numbers of lives.

My hero is: all those who helped in september 11. im not from america i live in a small town called renmark in south australia but when i seen and heard what had happened on september 11 no words could express the hurt, anger and devistation of what had happened.i am so proud of all the people who helped save lives, transport food or water to those who needed it and those courages people who stopped the highjakers from killing more innocent people by taking there own lives.i cant even begin to imagin what it must have been like but i know that it has changed the world, it certainlly changed me and the way i look at the everyday police officer or fire fighter or even the lady sitting next to me on a the bus.to those who lost their friends and loved ones my heart goes out to you.

My hero is: Everyone who helped with 9/11. My hero is heroes actually. My heroes are everyone who helped clean up and save the people durring 9/11. One firefighter I had heard a story about is a huge hero to me.
The story was a husband and wife worked on one of levels that was a direct hit twards the plane. That day they had brought their daughter to work because their babysitter was sick. They had forgotten something in their car so they all went down to get it. Their daughter was tired of riding in the elevator so they got out of the elevator and went down the stairs. When they were about to the third level they heard a loud crash and the stairs were falling on them. The mother and the daughter got out safe but for the husband it was not so good. Six hundred pounds of material fell onto his legs. One fireman pulled all the material off the mans legs and saved his life.

My hero is: People. Everybody came together on 9/11 in such a way that I have never seen before. Everybody just forgot about their own problems or the petty argument they were having with neighbours and they joined together..to pray and to grieve and to cry. My heroes are the people who lost their lives, the people who helped in the rescue, the air traffic controllers, the police and firefighters, but most of all...those people who lost a parent, a child or a friend. May God Bless

My hero is: The relatives of the 9-11 victims. The relatives of the 9-11 victims are my heroes because they had the courage to take a stand and come forward about their experiences. His or her faith inspires everyone worldwide. Thousands of people in America lost mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, children, and more on that devastating day. I respect them greatly for their mental and emotional strength to express their feelings on the day when America was in tears. Their valor should inspire the world to not back away from their fears and troubles, but to express them and teach others around the world that they are not alone.

My hero is: every soul that fought for our nation in it's strongest state of pain. our souls that had fought they are my heroes because they fought, some with there lives, others with might, they all found a light, within us, our light, they gave us our might, to look upon the sight, to once more grab liberty right out from the dark, to sail along dark waters, on a giant ark. they gave us our strength, our talons once more, to be like the eagle that above this nation soars, we all felt twice the pain that we all felt within,i know how you feel, and i know that it's real, but the power we have, just beneath the ash... is, forever, not only, the power of god, we also have strength that gives us our might, that lets us still fight, to not show our pain, let it shine, our golden grain! why should we give up, we still have that push, that will never yes never! Oh never, be hushed.

My hero is: My Favorite American Soldier Micah Rolph. Micah has the uncanny ability to make everything seem alright. No matter what hardships he is facing while out on convoy, he remains with a valiant spirit that inspires me and encourages me to want to become a better person. His love and pride in his country are truly remarkable. September 11th has only made him want to continue working for our freedom. I honor him daily by praying that God brings peace for Micah to be able to just step away from it all for a moment to know how greatly I love him and appreciate him. Distance does not deter my intense feelings for him because never had I met someone whose kindness goes beyond words. He makes me feel every emotion there is all at once. I hope everybody one day will get to meet Micah to understand what a great contribution he makes for all. Micah Rolph truly is My Favorite American Soldier.

My hero is: My husband, Luke Medlin Sgt. USMC. Luke is my hero because he is willing to risk his life for myself, our daughter, our family, friends, and even strangers. This, to me, is a true selfless act. He has been in the Marine Corps for 7 years. He was serving as a USMC reservist when 9/11 took place. During the days following that horrible tragedy, he reenlisted for active duty. He is now deployed to Iraq for the second time. He does his job without fear of what might lie ahead, even with all of the uncertainty which surrounds these countries of war and terrorism. He loves being able to help protect our country and its people. He is a defender of our freedom. He does what he does because he wants to, not because of a contract. He chose to be a Marine, and a Marine he will always be. I love my husband, my hero, my Marine, and with God as his protector, he will return home safely and soon. You're doing a great job, baby! I am so proud of you!

My hero is: All people. On 9-11 the world changed, especially America. There are so many who should be called a hero....the families of those who lost loved ones for they are the ones that have to go on, which dear Lord, I could not imagine. To all those who lost their lives, for they were just being Americans, doing what we all do, working for our families so they can have a better life, just all people like you and I. All the firefighters and policemen who gave their lives every single day to protect us from harm. To every New Yorker who has risen above all this mayhem and to every American who truly loves his/her country and got right back to their everyday duties, not that it wasn't hard...but, we as Americans are truly a brave, strong and caring people....They are all a hero in a different way, and i am proud, so very proud to be an American. No, life is not fair. Things like this, we say, they should not happen but we cannot change the people who so very much dislike us. We can only, and will only, go on being the Strength of this country. So to me each and everyone is a hero! Peace be with you all....especially within your hearts...that is so very important. We may not be able to change the world but we can have peace within ourselves, and that will carry us through.

My hero is: Absolutely everyone. I say that everyone who was there and had to see that is a hero because they were even there helping in the first place. They did not have to help but they did anyways. They knew in their hearts what was right and they acted without a moments thought about what could happen to them. I do believe that God was with us that day comforting us, holding us, letting us cry on his shoulder. His shoulder of faith. I would just like to say that I consider that everyone is my hero that was there and I would like to say I am so sorry if you knew someone that died there on September 11, 2001 and just remember that they were probably helping someone try to get out! God bless America and God bless you!

My hero is:
DR. FARRINGTON. I WAS A CAREGIVER TO A WWII WAR VETERAN AMPUTEE ON THE DAY THE TWIN TOWERS FELL. BEING A PACIFIST I WAS HORRIFIED WHEN MY CLIENT BEGAN CURSING AND YELLING WHEN THE FIRST TOWER WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. SOMEHOW HE KNEW RIGHT AWAY THAT IT WAS NO ACCIDENT. I DID MY BEST TO QUIET MY CLIENT ALL THE WHILE I WAS IN A PANIC REGARDING MY FAMILY'S WHEREABOUTS DURING THESE EVENTS. HE WAS NOT TO BE STOPPED, HIS ANGER FOR THE WAR HE HAD BEEN IN AND THE WAR HE FOUGHT DAILY WITH HIS PAIN, THE SUFFERING AND MENTAL ANGUISH OF BEING HOUSE BOUND WAS TOO MUCH FOR ME TO ABSORB. I CALLED MY MOTHER 15 TIMES ON HER CELL PHONE AS I WANTED TO BE FREED FROM THIS HORRIBLE PLIGHT THAT I FOUND MYSELF IN.. THEN THE NEXT TOWER WAS HIT AND THE WORDS THIS MAN USED WERE NOT NEW TO MY EARS BUT EACH WORD TOOK A PLACE IN MY BRAIN THAT WOULD BE STORED AND PLAY AGAIN AND AGAIN FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS. SOON MY OWN FAMILY BECAME LIKE ENEMIES TO ME AND EVERYTHING THEY DID THAT IN SOME WAY HURT ME OR SCARED ME NO MATTER HOW INNOCENT COMPOUNDED THE FEAR THAT WAS GROWING INSIDE OF ME. MY HUSBAND COULDN'T BELIEVE THAT I WAS TAKING THIS NEW DANGER SO SERIOUSLY. I COULDN'T EVEN STAND FOR HIM TO GO WITH ME TO THE DOCTOR FOR I DIDN'T BELIEVE THAT HE COULD UNDERSTAND THE INTENSE FEAR THAT RAGED INSIDE OF ME OVER SOMETHING THAT WAS HERE FOR A TIME YET OVER AND HAD NOT PERSONALLY INJURED ME THE WAY THOSE FOLKS THERE AT THE SITE WERE INJURED. BUT IT WAS AS IF I WAS THERE AND HAD BEEN INJURED EVEN MORE SERIOUSLY BECAUSE NO MATTER HOW MUCH I TRIED I COULD NOT RELEASE MY FEAR AND TREPIDITION OVER THE EVENTS OF THAT DAY. MY DOCTOR BECAME AS THOUGH A LOVING PATIENT SON WHO DIDN'T HAVE ANSWERS, NO MEDICINE, NO HEALING OF WOUNDS OTHER THAN TO LISTEN, LISTEN, LISTEN. IT WAS IF HE HAD STOPPED THE WORLD TO LET ME OFF WHILE HE RUBBED MY ARM AND HELD MY HAND...FOR THOSE FEW MINUTES HE WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT I TRUSTED, HEARD, FELT, HE WAS NOT A DOCTOR, WAR HERO, NOTHING OF ANY SORT OF FANCY...JUST MY FRIEND, MY HERO, MY CONFIDANT, MY PROTECTOR. HE PROBABLY DOESN'T EVEN KNOW THE IMPACT HE HAD ON MY LIFE, THE ONE THAT I WILL HAVE TO LIVE FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, DIFFERENT, YET SAFER BECAUSE HE TAUGHT ME A LESSON. ONE THAT I SHALL NEVER FORGET ONE THAT WILL KEEP ME AND MY MIND TOGETHER ON THE SAME "TRACK".

My hero is: All of the firefighters of 9-11. My role models are actually a lot of people: all of the fire fighters and volunteers of September 11th. Many gave up their lives for total strangers! I think that they were really brave because they risked their own lives for others. I don’t think that they got recognized enough for their bravery. Others even spent the time to look for people under the rubbish of the world trade centers when the chance of finding anyone were really low. I really respect them for showing so much bravery.

My hero is:
firemen. Firemen are my heroes because they save people's lives. In my opinion, every fireman is helping save people's lives. After the terrible September 11th attack, firemen came and helped. Though some are gone, they will never be forgotten.
At ground zero, where the towers used to stand, I think the country should build another two towers, and each one should have 1,500 steps to remember the 3,000 people who died.
Firemen take a lot of risks so that someone may live. I know my time on earth is getting shorter, but in that time, I plan to become a fireman and save people myself. Everyone has a day when they leave us. It may be next year, it may be in the next decade, all anyone knows is that, someday, we will be walking in the clouds.

My hero is: september 11th fire fighters. The fire fighters of September 11th are my heros because they were willing to risk their lives in order to save those lives of hundreds of innocent people. No matter what their odds of surving were these men spent hours upon hours drastically searching for survivors. And they did all this without looking for fame or glory from people all around the world. I hope they realize what a difference they have made in the world and especially in the lives of the families whose loved ones were saved. To me, these men and women are as close to a true hero as you can get.

My hero is:
Pat O'Connor(My Dad) Peterborough Firefighter. My father is my hero for so many different reasons, I could never list them all. He is always there for my family and I and I know that he would do anything for me. He would go to the ends of the Earth to help. He is a full time firefighter in the city of Peterborough, Ontario. I remember as a little girl being so proud of him and saying that I wanted to be a fire fighter like him when I grew up, all my friends thought it was so neat that he was a fire fighter. Now after the horrifying events of Sept. 11th I have realized more and more how much he risks everytime he goes to work, along with all of the other brave men and women there. I know that his family means the world to him and each day he goes to work he risks it all. It is so incredibly scary to think that there are people out there who would intentionally hurt another human being. But it is comforting to know that there are people out there who are willing to help others in a time of need. I am very proud of my dad for what he does, along with all of his colleagues. They are there because they truly care about the well being of others. It scared me to death thinking that all of those brave police officers and firefighters died in the line of duty, leaving behind their families and other loved ones because of such a horrible act, and everyday he goes to work I hope that they stay out of danger.
"What we for ourselves dies with us, but we what we do for others remains immortal."-source unknown.

The reason they are my heroes is because the firefighters just went in the burning towers without thinking what lied before them and what might have happened to them. My Hero is My Best Friend's Doner. 5 years ago my best friend *Kellie needed a bone transplant. Since I was too young and no one in her family had the same type bone, they had to find a doner. We wern't allowed to know his real name until 3 years after the transplant, so me and *Kellie called him "Mr.Nice Man".
Finally we knew his name, Terri. Terri and his family were loved by *Kellie and hers. *Kellie planned on seeing Terri every 5 years, but sadly she couldn't.
One year ago, on September 11th, Terri died. He was a Fireman saving lives when a steel beam fell on him. I guess that's what he did best - saving peoples lives - for he saved people he didn't even know, and touched many more of our hearts than he could imagine.

My hero is: teachers. I think teachers are heroes because they work with the people who will one day preside over our country and the job they (we) do is often overlooked. Last September 11th, many people stayed home or went to work and commiserated with their friends and neighbors, but teachers went to work and comforted their students and families. We put aside our feelings to help our kids with theirs.

Filled with teror from the stike
Of the hijacked airplane's flight,
I wachted the news and was filled with woe
Of the many dying, I did not know
How America would carry on though
Of the puzzled people, what could they do?
Of the loved ones who died in the towers
Their family and friends would grieve for hours
But now I know we've found away
To keep our spirts alive another day.

My hero is: Michale Benefit. Because when he saw the plane crash in to the north tower he got everybody going down the stairs. And then when he rreaches the 61st floor he saw an old woman in a wheel chair an d with one of his co-workers they carried her all the way down. It took them ann hour. I thought that was amazing, it was also a sighn of carringness and very humble.

My hero is: The Familys of Thse who lost thier lives on 9-11. Losing a family member can be hard, and all you want to do is run away and hide, but the family members of the victims gave thier time and every last ounce of energy to our nation. They stared orginizations, donated money, or helped with the search, even after the tragidy. These people still amaze me. How they are so brave and how they spread the words about there lost loved ones and still are so strong.

My hero is: The firefighters of 9/11. They were so brave to run up the towers to save people. They knew that they might die, but that never stopped them. I was born in Lennox Hill hospital and I lived in the Bronx while I was little. I cannot remember much, but when I moved to England I was told about New York. I moved back to America and have lived in Texas since I was seven. I have visited my relatives in New York and Connecticut many times and I have been in Tower 1. I remember that it was dark out and started to snow. I looked out over New York and saw what a great country I live in. There are different races and all can achieve the same accomplishments. Those firefighters put aside the fact that they did not know anyone in those buildings and still put their lives in danger for other peoples lives. I hope that some day I can do something of that magnitude and help people I do not know. I don't know if I could have done such a thing to run into a fire, but that is their job and that is what they do. I think that those fire fighters would have run in there whether they were fire fighters or not. Even though I do not know who all of those people are, I love their bravery and will admire them till I die. I know that I will die knowing that I have helped people just like thos fire fighters. The terrorists will not hurt me, I was changed to be stronger.

My hero is: All the personell that helped in the 9-11 tradgedy. They risked their lives to save others. It must have taken a lot of courage to get up there in all that rubble and look for dead bodies, or at least remains of them. Dealing with all the screaming citizens and looking for loved ones. That must have been really tough. They risk their lives every day and deserve our gratitude if not more in return.

The policeman and firefighters are my heros because it must have taken a lot of courage for them to run into a building that is about to fall and to save the lives of others. Everyday they are called out to run into a building on fire and save people or to chase down people that have guns and weapons. They are the people who keep this world save and a better place to live in. They risk their lives everyday for us and I think that we should give them something in return. My hero is: All of the firefighters who participated in rescuing and dying for the poeple in the World Trade Centers.. I say that these people are my heros because these men and women did something that the peopple in the world will never forget, that I will never forget. My dad is a Dallas Firefighter and I know what the families around the world fear when their husband, dad, or friend goes to work every day. Knowing that they will sacrifice their lives in an instant to save other men, women, or children. The firefighters around the world have lots of fires each and every day, but not one like this. They wake up knowing whats about to come, but don't realize how big the building is. Or how big the fire is. Today September 11,2002 I will remember what happened to the poeple who were innocent and didn't do anything wrong. But were charged for a fatel and worse death. I will remember always. Will you?

My hero is: WTC firefighters. These men and women were willing to risk their lives for people they did not know.As people were fleeing the WTCs the fire fighters weregoing in to the towers.
They are brave people because they gave up their lives in order to give other people, who were strangers to them, a chance to live. Many firefighters left behind children, husbands, and wives.I hope that those children know how much their fathers and mothers meant to us on
September 11,2001.Many firefighters were lost that day but their legacy will live on.

My hero is: Firefighters. I remember September 11th, exactly one year ago. Suddenly the tv's in my school came on... and I remember all my friends just started crying. Everyone was crying, hoping it was a dream. I remember exactly how scared I was, my great uncle works in the pentagon, and my cousin worked in the twin towers. Thankfully they weren't in work that day. But then the tvs showed the towers falling, firefighters were still rushing inside the building, trying to help those people who couldnt make it out. & then the towers collapsed. I was so sad. I will never forget what those firefighters did for our country. God bless the USA.

My hero is: The people in the World Trade Centers.. My heroes are all the people in the Twin Towers because they all came together on 9*11. Amazing how in spite of all their differences they all saw each other as 1 people, 1 race, 1 kind. During the attacks every one was trying to get out of the burning buildings. howerver every one is a hero in my heart we must recongnize the unrecongnizeable. 1 man could have gotten out of the burning buildings, but chose to stay with the ones who could not. 2 men carried a crippled woman out of the towers. they slowed down their escape for their lives but chose to help another. They were one people. Another man could have escaped from the burning building also but instead chose to stay with his friend because he was a paraplegic. they bothed parished but they were one race.the Firefighters watched their working partners walk into that building just as it collapsed. They were one kind. millions of people lined up to give blood to those who needed it. we became one blood. Because all of the above happened, America came together.we became one nation.

Michael Benfante is my hero because he risked his own life to save a woman with a disability. A woman in a wheelchair would have died if it hadn't had been for him, for she wouldn't have been able to get down to the safety of solidarity. He saved a life. He's a true American hero.

My hero is: Michael Benfante. This is my hero, because he put his on life at stake for someone who needed help when noone else would. It takes someone with a lot of love to do that and he proved it. He carried someone in a wheelchair 68 stories!

My hero is: The firefighters. It is amazing that they were running up the stairs as many people were running down. They risked their lives to save others. That is the main thing that catches my attention.

My hero is: Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. He is my hero after september,11,01 because before all of this happened New York used to have a problem with crime, theft, and robbery. He cahanged all that to now that there is not that much crime but now since this happened he did all he could to help people. He was out there when the toweres where about to collapse. Now i understand that he had to retire because he has prostate cancer. This is why he is my hero!
