"People are my favorite things...them and all of the amazing things we do together" (Green). This quote is from Hank Green, the kind-hearted guy who's an inspiration to many. Green is the founder and creator of many different projects such as Project for Awesome and Vidcon. He's in addition to that, he is a host for Crash Course and SciShow. Many also know him as the brother of the more popular John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars (Biography). Together, Hank and his brother work to make the world a better place. For one to be considered a hero in my book, he or she must be philanthropic and make a difference in the world. With his videos and projects, Hank Green displays his benevolence and positive impact on people.
Hank Green frequently demonstrates his benevolence via his kind hearted actions. An article written by Mary Cirincione provides a quote from Green: "'Lots of people go through the whole Crash Course series and aren't in school at all. And I think that's fantastic" (Cirincione). Hank Green's excitement about how his videos are viewed by people who aren't being forced to watch shows his philanthropic personality. The pleasure he takes in seeing people get excited about science displays his benevolence. On his website, Hank Green writes about his invention of 2D glasses: "I like a good 3D movie, and my wife does too, for about five minutes, before she gets a splitting headache that she'll then have for at least 24 hours after the movie ends...2D Glasses let the wearer watch movies that are projected in 3D in two crisp, clear dimensions, just like you're watching a regular movie."(Green). To clarify, 2D glasses made it so that Green's wife could go watch 3D movies with him while avoiding headaches. By going through all the hard work of inventing something just for making life better for his wife and others with the same problem, Hank Green shows how much of a kind and thoughtful person he is.

Hank Green is the perfect example of a person who makes a real impact on the world and the people in it. Here's a quote from a teacher talking about how Green's Crash Course videos help her teach the class: "'They get to move more quickly through topics, whether they watch the videos at home or watch them in class. Then they can spend time answering questions, interacting, and doing one-on-one stuff'"(Weinberger). Hank Green's videos help teachers and students alike. Because of this, a classroom functions more smoothly and people's lives are improved. This is an impact. Another example of Green's impact on the world is the Project for Awesome, for which he co-founds with his brother. Project for Awesome is a charity project where fans and other people post videos about their desired charity. Because this is all in one day, the videos flood YouTube and replace anything that would normally be there. In addition to promoting all these charities, PFA also accepts donations to raise money for these charities. In 2014, Project for Awesome raised over 1 million dollars. This event raises more and more money as it gains popularity (Green). Project for Awesome changes things and impacts the world because it boosts awareness for charities and raises money for them at the same time. Together, these make a difference and show how much Hank Green does for the world. With his projects, Green touches the lives of people everywhere.

Hank Green displays his benevolence and makes an impact on the world by hosting Crash Course and holding Project for Awesome every year. While helping students get through school by making it more fun, the videos also help teachers. Of course, Crash Course is only one of the many other projects Hank Green is working on. There's also Project for Awesome in which Green helps charities by raising money and awareness for them. Aside from all those, he does nice things like inventing 2D glasses for all who suffer from headaches caused by 3D screens. While this may be repetitive, Hank Green inspires me for the same reason he is a hero: his videos. What got me to really like him was one of his SciShow videos my friend showed me. What I saw was this funny, fast talking guy who made the list of the 5 most dangerous chemicals in the world, the most interesting thing I've seen all day. He knew how to talk. Although I hate public speaking, I hope to be like him some day. I also have a strong feeling that others feel the same way. Here's a question. What is a hero? A hero is simply a nice person who makes a difference. Hank Green is exactly that.
