Helen Keller (http://www.biography.com/people/helen-keller-9361967 ()) |
Who was Helen Keller? Helen Keller was a deaf and blind speaker, speaker, and politician. Helen was not born deaf and blind but was believed to contracted an illness, at the age of nine-teen months, that left her with deafblind. Even with her disability Keller was a adaptable, brave, and determined person. She adapted to the situation and was able to live with it. She was brave enough to face everything despite being setback so far. And, she was determined, she strived for higher learning and to make a difference in the world. Helen Keller was and is a beacon of hope for society. She is inspirational because although she had many obstacles she faced them head on and achieved her goals.
Helen Keller was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama (United States of America) During her childhood she attended many schools so she could learn to communicate. When she was eight years old she went to Perkins Institute for the Blind. Around age fourteen she moved to New York to Wright-Humason School for the Deaf. Two years later she moved to Massachusetts to attend The Cambridge School for Young Ladies. After her high school, she attended Radcliffe College. Four years later, when she was twenty-four Helen Graduated from Radcliffe; becoming the first deaf and blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. After school, Helen did not stay in one place for very long; due to the fact that she moved around to speak, and raise money, for different organizations. With her companion Anne Sullivan, Keller moved to Queens, New York to a place called Forest Hills. After Anne's deaths in 1936 Helen Left Forest Hills and moved to Connecticut.
Helen Keller life spanned from June 27, 1880 to June 1, 1968. In her life of 86 years Helen made a big impact on the world. She wrote 12 books, including: The Frost King; A Story Of My Life; The World I Live In; and nine more, and seven articles. She was a successful speaker and politician. In her later life, Keller helped to find, and supported, many organizations. Such as, the American Foundation for the Blind, Helen Keller International, American Civil Liberties Union, and the Industrial Workers of the World. She went around the world and spoke in over 40 countries speaking to raise money for the group she represented. In her political career, Keller was apart of the Socialist party. She helped campaign her party from 1909 to 1921. One of Helen's greatest influences on the world might have been one that she didn't even try to accomplish. Helen is an influence, a beacon of hope, for people today. Even with her disabilities she was able to accomplish so much and do so many things.
For me, Helen Keller was an inspiration. She is a sign of hope. Even with her "disadvantages" she was able to accomplish so much with her life. She chose to go to school, graduate from college, become successful writer, and great politician and speaker. Also, she went out in the world and accomplished so many things. She was selfless, she went all around the world, to forty different countries, to speak and help raise money for the organizations that were working on research towards disabilities. She had little to nothing to gain, but she used her situation to try help others, for good. This personally, inspires, motivates me to try and make a difference in the world. Helen was able to make such a difference with only three of her five senses. That I believe that I could make just as big of an impact if I just put my mind to it.
In conclusion. Helen Keller was, and is, an influence to the world today. She made a difference through finding organizations and raising money to help those organizations do research for disabilities. She was a politician and a writer. She went to school and became the first deaf and blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. She accomplished so much, and through this she is beacon of hope, an inspiration to anyone and everyone today.
