Introduction - I chose Howie Mandel for my biography book report because he is hilarious and makes me laugh all the time. Although I could have chosen any comedian I chose Howie because most of the time his jokes are not racist or rude. This is an autobiography by Howie Mandel and Josh Young. His autobiography has 214 pages to laugh at and enjoy. This book gives you a tour through Howie Mandels life from when he was a kid to growing up as a comedian to eventually becoming an America's Got Talent judge. One interesting fact l learned about Howie Mandel in this book is that he grew up with multiple disorders ADD, ADHD and OCD. These disorders created challenges for Howie Mandel to overcome. His OCD caused him to always be organized and neat. The problem ADHD caused him was that it was difficult for him to stay on task and stay focused. The other thing is that Howie Mandel is an extreme germaphobe like really extreme. Even though no one wants anything to do with germs, Howie takes that to an extreme. Since he is a germaphobe he is constantly washing his hands, and doesn't like other people touching him, sometimes he even wears gloves. Howie overcame his challenges by accepting them and using them in his humour. The last fact about the book and author is about Josh Young the man who helped Howie Mandel write this awesome book. Josh Young has won many awards and been involved in big activities like the the Stratford Festival, a big celebration of theater and drama. The approximate dates this book covers are from November 29, 1955, the day Howie was born and the present or publish date, 2009. That was a little bit about Howie and the book but there are many more facts to read about!

Personal Facts - Howard was born and raised in Willow Dale, Toronto and his family is Jewish. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife Terry and three kids Alex, Jackie and Riley. His dad was a manufacturer and he was also a real estate agent. At first Howie Mandel had a job owning a carpet business but he did not make enough money. He ended up keeping the carpet place and decided to pursue his passion, comedy. He started at a comedy place called Yuk Yuks, the same place Jim Carrey got his big break, in Toronto, which is where Howie got a ticket to Comedy Land making Canadians laugh. Howie Mandel has dark brown eyes and no hair except for his goatee, his height is about 1.78 meters tall. He is currently 59 years old, living happy in Los Angeles. Growing up, Howie went through a time where he was becoming quite the prankster. He would mess around with his family and his girlfriend to the point where his girlfriend threatened to break up with him if he didn't stop. That stopped Howie from pranking immediately. Howie was cared for as a kid but on July 18, 1945 his little brother Stephen Mandel was born. Howie was still respected but he thought his parents were ignoring him so he actually hurt Stephen sometimes because he was jealous. Stephen was once the Mayer of Edmonton and now the two brothers get along really well. The life Howie Mandel had wasn't always great but he worked hard get where he is now and he is very happy.

Challenges and Accomplishments - Many people think of Howie Mandel as just a funny comedian or an America's Got Talent judge, but like most celebrities he went through distressing stuff too. The first struggle Howie had was being an extreme germaphobe which meant he had a huge fear of germs and always wanted be clean. Anything that had something to do with germs caused Howie to become very uncomfortable. Howie would go to extremes to make sure he didn't come in contact with germs, sometimes avoiding situations completely so he didn't have to come in contact with germs. Since he was a germaphobe he was unfortunately bullied a lot. He also got picked on a bit for being nerdy since he wasn't very athletic. As the bullying continued he just ignored it and moved on, making him a stronger person today. Well he has been through a lot but there is still his biggest struggle dealing with OCD, ADHD and ADD. These disorders meant Howie always wanted to be organized but had a hard time focusing on things. He was able to deal with his disorders with help from his family and doctors. Even though Howie has had to overcome a lot in his life, he still managed to get through it. Now for the rewards. Howie has been nominated for lots of awards, he won the Golden Apple Male Discovery of the Year and the Star on the Walk of Fame award. He got nominated because of most of the shows and movies he is in, America's got Talent, Deal or no Deal, Mobbed and his own show, you guessed it, The Howie Mandel Show. Those were his show business achievements. Now I will talk about his Fersonal achievements. The first thing is him overcoming his disorders, he still has them but he can control them a lot better than he ever could. This is a huge achievement for anybody with any kind of disorder because these disorders stop you from being focused and being able to learn and make it hard to think. It has a huge affect on your life and Howie is an inspiration for anyone who has these disorders.

Conclusions and Reflections - This final paragraph will be my overall opinion and reflections to this book. The thing that surprised me was when I found out that Howie had been mean to his younger brother as a kid because I thought he was always nice. I also learned that Howie was in many other shows and movies that I did not know about. If I was ever able talk to or interview Howie Mandel I would ask him these 3 questions. "Did you get in trouble a lot while you in the pranking phase?", "How happy were you when you overcame your disorders?" and the final one "How do you think you could help other people fight their disorders?" If I could be Howie Mandel's kid it would be nice having the money and a big house but as nice as Howie is I love my family! After reading the book I was really happy with it because it was super funny and interesting. I would give an 8 out of 10, not a 10 out of 10, because it was really boring at some parts but overall I really liked it. The thing I learned were that people should really respect those with disorders because they can't help it and to always be nice because bullying people, especially because of something they can't help, is awful. The things I can relate from my life to his life is that I kind of like being funny at school and it makes me happy making other people laugh. The other thing that I can relate to is that I also have trouble focusing and being distracted. It was nice to read about Howie Mandel because I can personally relate to him. I think that other people would like this book if you like a decently small book that is funny and descriptive and I certainly recommend it. I am really happy with the book and person I chose to read about because he is funny, kind, respectful and those traits make a great person. I wouldn't consider him as a hero because he did not save lives or anything but he has a great career and a positive message to follow and look up to.
