A hero is defined as someone that you look up to like a role model. To me Hank Williams Jr. is my hero because I’ve listened to him since I was a little child. He is a great influence to other country music singers and people who enjoy his music. Hank is a great role model because he is an avid hunter and outdoorsmen. He even had a battle with drugs and alcohol just like his father (Hank Williams Sr.). Not only is Hank Williams Jr. the greatest country music singer of my generation. He is a family man and he is very active in his children’s lives. In fact, Hank Williams Jr. is my hero because he is brave, he’s a family man, and he has followed his father’s legacy in country music.

Hank is indeed a very brave individual because of his accident that occurred on August 8th 1975 when he was hunting in the Ajax Mountains of Montana. His skull was split and his face was crushed but this didn’t stop him. After he recovered he had to learn how to speak and sing all over again. He went through two years of recovery and after his reconstructive surgery he released two new albums. One of them was One Night Stand and the other that his good friend Waylon Jennings had produced and appeared in was Once and For All. To me anybody that has that much passion for their career is definitely a hero in my eyes.

Hank Jr. is what you would call a family man. He always puts his family first and he supports them emotionally, mentally, and of course physically. He has taught his children about music and the outdoors. He spends a great deal of his spare time writing songs with his son Sam Williams. He even spends time with his whole family during hunting season because he has introduced them to the outdoors and they bond when they are in the woods or working outside. To me, supporting your family is a characteristic of a hero because Hank is taking care of what is near and dear to him.

After Hank’s father died when he was only three years old, his mother encouraged Hank to sing his father’s songs on stage. When Hank was a teenager he was performing his father’s hit songs and he was writing his own hit songs as well. In the 1960’s and early 70’s he cut off all contact with his mother so that he could concentrate on his own music career. He hit the charts with his hit song, “Standing in the Shadows (of a very famous man)”. This song was about how he was supposed to be just like his father and how he wanted to break free from that sense of being in his father’s shadow. Since then Hank has broken free of his father’s memory, created his own style of music, and has made a name for himself in the country music industry.

All in all, Hank Williams is a great musician/hero because of his feats of bravery and his family qualities. He also influences a lot of today’s country and rock singer/songwriters. Hank is inspirational to hunters and outdoorsmen because of his involvement in the NRA and being part of conservationist around the world. Hank Williams Jr. is a hero in my eyes and he will always be. He has made songs that have inspired me and that have gotten me through some hard times. Overall, Hank is the best choice for a hero.
