Hugo Sanchez

by Felix from Columbia

I present to all of you, a person that changed the history of Mexican soccer. He changed soccer style; he also made Mexicans love soccer in many ways. He realized his dreams to play in Europe. This person made the “Chilena” so famous, that the other players around the world are trying to copy him. Hugo Sanchez is my hero because he made Mexicans watch him play soccer in one of the best soccer clubs ever, Real Madrid. He also inspired young people to follow their dreams. Sanchez is the only soccer player from Mexico that has played in three world cups for Mexico. His successes came early in life, but he also had challenges. (soccer-fans-info.com)

Hugo Sanchez Marquez was born in Mexico City, on July 11, 1958. Hugo Sanchez started his career as a professional soccer player in 1976. He was chosen by a soccer club called the U.N.A.M Pumas when he was only 15 years old. Later on he realized his dream to play for the first division tournament and had his first contract. His life wasn’t that good because his family was poor, but his parents sacrificed everything to give him a better life and made his dreams come true. Hugo Sanchez's first contract gave his family a lot of money to have a better life.

The U.N.A.M. Mexican Soccer Club decided to trade Sanchez to a USA club called The San Diego Sockers twice. Sanchez made 29 goals in the 32 games that he played as striker. Sanchez proved his worth as striker. (soccer-fans-info.com) this opportunity opened many doors for Hugo internationally starting with the soccer club called Athletic Madrid. This club signed him to play for the club for two seasons, but Hugo needed more time to prove his skills as soccer player/ striker. The athletic club drafted Hugo Sanchez from the UNAM club. The Next three seasons with club atletico, Sanchez demonstrated his talent and he made 54 goals in total of 111 matches. During the 1984-1985 season, Sanchez was in the top of his career and he made club atletico the second best time in the Spanish league. Hugo Sanchez won an individual trophy called “Pichichi of the year.” (soccer-fans-info.com)This was for the striker who made the highest amount of goals in the whole season. Sanchez received a trophy for his good work.

In 1985 Sanchez got drafted by one of the best soccer clubs in the world called Real Madrid that decided to draft Hugo Sanchez to play as a striker. This gave Hugo many opportunities and this also demonstrated that Mexico had good soccer players just as in other countries. Hugo Sanchez played for Real Madrid and he was truly outstanding with the team. He was the best soccer player at the time. He won 5 consecutive league titles from 1985 to 1990, and he also won the UEFA Cup in 1986 and the Spanish Cup in 1989. (soccer-fans-info.com) Sanchez gave to Real Madrid a lot of records and cups during his work for them. “He managed to win four consecutive Pichichi titles as top goalscorers, with a goal tally of 253 in 283 matches, an enormous performance for any world class striker." Hugo Sanchez is my hero because he has the characteristics that a hero should have. For example, he made a lot of changes in the Spanish league and the most important thing is that Hugo Sanchez is Mexican! He invented the “Chilenita” and he also put the name of Mexico up at the top of the soccer world with his skills and his creative ways to play with the soccer ball. But this is only some of the ways that I decided to call him a hero; there is more about Hugo Sanchez that makes him is hero. Hugo made a foundation that helps poor people and brings to them the opportunity to practice soccer and one day to possibly become a professional soccer player like him. Hugo Sanchez ia a true hero.
