Hayden takes a shot. (sportcentric.com) |
Field hockey star Hayden Shaw is my hero because he is known as one of New Zealand's best ever proponents of the drag flick. He is lethal on penalty corners and can rocket the ball into the goal, scoring well over 100 goals for his country. Hayden is also an imposing defender and has the uncanny skill of defeating opponents mentally. He made his debut in 2002 and has played a vital role at two Olympic Games as well as the 2002 Commonwealth Games where he won a silver medal.
Hayden grew up in Christchurch. He was born on the 31-8-1980. He is a defender so his shirt number is 19. He has won a silver medal at the commonwealth games in 2002. His toughest opponent is Australia. He started playing hockey at the age of 5 and he trains 18 hours a week. His dad has been most influential in his career.
Even though Hayden is good he still has weaknesses in defending. His hobbies outside of hockey are playing cricket and spending time with Johanna. He dislikes negative people who think the world is against them. His advice for young players is winning isn't important but wanting to win is!
That is why Hayden Shaw is my true hero and I hope he keeps playing hockey for the Black Sticks and keeps scoring goals.
